It Just Keeps Getting Better

Ollantaytambo, Sacred Valley, Peru
We are still in El Valle Sagrado (The Sacred valley) and loving it. We've spent the past 5 days in beautiful Ollanta, only 50 km or so from Machu Picchu. What the Incas were able to accomplish in such a short time over 500 years ago is simply astounding. Their construction techniques, which consisted in carved stone assembled so precisely without any mortar such that even a knife cannot fit in between the stones, and with walls often erected on an angle, and their water canals which are still in use today are feats of engineering. How they were able to move stones of that size from the Inca Quarry along the trails that we hiked boggles the mind.
