Long bus ride from our hotel to Seville

Seville, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands
Got up at 5:30 and were heading down to the bus at 6:45. The bus was supposed to be there at 7:05 but didn't arrive till 7:30. Many, many stops later to pick up other people we had about a 250km ride to Seville. We had to stop half way there for a 20 min bathroom break. Bus drivers in Europe can not drive more than 2 hours without a break - it is the law. Finally got to Seville around noon.
On the drive we drove through mountains that surround Malaga on 3 sides and then into fertile lands . LOTS and LOTS of olive groves and some almond trees. Then into the grape orchards and asparagus fields. We also passed a huge field of solar panels and some wind mills for power. Ed also pointed out Cork trees and explained that the bark is peeled every 9 years and they can live for 250 years. They went to a cork manufacturing plant in Portugal, that is why they knew that interesting tidbit. Learn something new everyday
First stop in Seville was the Plaza De Espana. - it was built in 1929 just for Expo. It was the highlight of the day, the amount of work they did on the tiles was absolutely amazing. Love all the colours and shapes. Each different province in Spain was represented and each little area had spots where books had been placed so people could sit, relax and read. We were all told to really watch for pick pockets as this is a big city just like anywhere in the world. Sharon and I thought about it and didn't think big cities in Canada had pick pockets but who knows.
Back on the bus for a short ride to the Gold Tower (called that because that is where the gold from the Americas was store back in the day, today it is a marine museum) where we were given free time to wander around. We started to be on our own at 12:00. Ed and Sharon were the tour guides because they were here last year. We wandered around the back streets till we found a place in the old jewish quarter to have lunch. We ordered Tapas and a beer each. Tapas are like little appetizers but I didn't really like mine, it was 4 little bowls - one with pimento, one with cold eggplant (not good like the other day), one with potato wedges again and one with some kind of beans . Ed and Sharon had 4 dishes each but they had some beets instead of pimentos Tom had potatoes instead of my pimentos. Glad I tried them, and I think in some places you have better options.
Then we continued to walk the streets and check out the area. We went into the Cathedral but It was under construction and most stuff is behind metal bars. Beautiful stain glass work though. We also stopped to go see the Bull Ring museum but they were taking so long for our tour that we were afraid it would take to long and we would miss the boat tour that we had scheduled for 3:20. So we skipped the tour and continued to walk around, then we sat and enjoyed a gelato.
The boat ride was okay but a bit of a disappointment, it was for one hour and I thought we would go to more places on the river. We sailed by where the 1992 Expo buildings were still standing and being used. We thought it was interesting that the first Expo was 1929 and the second one was 1992, just flipped the last 2 numbers.
Then a long drive back with a pit stop again and all the stops to let the people off. We got back to our hotel at 8:30. VERY LONG DAY but fun to learn new things. Tomorrow is a flea market in the morning and hopefully a pool afternoon. Plan to R and R
