West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Left Montana after a big egg breakfast (just in case food confiscated) then headed to the border. It was an easy crossing where we only had to fill out a form for the canoe. We arrived at Waterton Lakes National Park (NP) and quickly setup camp. After the first night, we decided to spend the long weekend (Victoria day) here rather than chance a side of the road experience. We drove up the Red Rock canyon for an outing plus toured the town numerous times. We had snow for a couple days and got to meet lots of people in the shelter beside the wood stoves which kept everyone toasty. We also got to sample Asian Indian nann with spiced cottage cheese plus Brazilian BBQ with pastas.
We left early from Waterton Lakes and headed towards the Crowsnest Pass; Cindy does not like the long drive through the Rocky Mountains where the drop-offs are significant and the curves are tight. Storm's new Michelin on/off-road paws are working really well but they do create more noise on pavement. After a long drive, we holed up at Boundary Creek Provincial Park (PP) for the night. This tiny Park had the sound of the rushing creek with enough space to give Yukon some exercise since very few campsites were taken.
The next day was a shorter drive to get to Manning PP but the switchbacks going into Osoyoos had Cindy at the edge of her seat. We setup in the Coldspring Campground, disconnected our trailer then went to the Skyview Campground for a shower. It has been really cold and wet with rain and snow plus freezing temperatures at night; to ensure our waterpipes don't burst, the furnace has been switched on to its lowest setting overnight.
Our Western drive finished with tea at my sister's condo in West Vancouver alongside the Capalano River; high tea was awesome. Fabio donated a ball to Yukon which he won't let out of his sight.
The next Blog will cover our travels going North in British Columbia (BC); hopefully the fires up North have been tamed.
