Lake Laberge Campground, Yukon, Canada
Left the Demster Highway and headed to Dawson where we had a pay shower ($4 for 5 minutes) and did our laundry. We joined the ferry lineup and it took two hours on Friday to cross the Yukon River; Cindy went on an earlier ferry crossing as a walk-on to secure a campsite at the Yukon River Territorial Park (TP) for the weekend. Many campers stayed up and partied for the Summer Solstice; us oldies did a campfire and were in bed by 22:00. On our second day we toured Dawson and saw Robert Service’s and Jack London's cabins; we also roamed around the local farmers’ market and picked up minimal supplies needed before restocking in Whitehorse.
Off early, there was no lineup for the ferry and we filled the water tank at the impressive Visitor Centre. After a long drive we ended up at Lake Lebarge TP where we cremated Sam McGee. The Spicy Elk sausages cooked over the campfire were delicious for dinner; we got leftover potatoes for breakfast with eggs.
Stay tuned for our Canada Day Blog from Atlin BC.
