After ten great days in Alaska with the Miami Bowers’, I had to return to Whitehorse in order to renew my prescriptions from Shoppers Drugs. Crossing the border was a piece of cake with only firewood and firearms being the questions; Yukon always seems to make these crossings easier and they only ask about Rabies - they never want the paperwork which is at our fingertips. Our first night in Canada was spent alongside the Donjek River again in a semi-retired quarry where Yukon knew the terrain and had lots of space to play. No other Random campers arrived that night which was great; rain in the evening and overnight made the camper our preferred location.
We left early in the rain and headed to Congdon Creek Territorial Park (TP) but stopped first at Destruction Bay for milk and gas.
Moving on, we used the Visitor Centre facilities in Haines Junction where I called the Whitehorse drugstore and they told me my pills where a special order to be delivered from BC; ergo, we are in a holding pattern until Saturday. We returned to a Random site alongside the Takhanne River near Million Dollar Falls TP to bide our time.
It was interesting that all the Swallows have vanished. With rainy weather, we utilized the picnic shelter at the adjacent TP on our second day; being next to a roaring woodstove playing games was much better than sitting in the camper or beneath the awning.
Off early we saw a beautiful lithe Lynx crossing the road then stopped at the Haines Junction Visitor Centre to check on emails and found that after eleven months Mom's probate was finally approved by the Ontario court - yippee; talk about a backlog. While waiting for my pills, we decided to go clockwise to Tagish and Carcross; we ended up Random camping on the windy arm of Tagish Lake just South of Carcross on Highway #2 near the US Border by Conrad TP.
On our way to Whitehorse in the morning we saw another Moose with a decent rack (not likely to catch up to the quantity of Bear). After shopping, laundry and refilling gas, we are on our way to hopefully see Fall colours on the lower part of the Demster. Stay tuned for the next Blog.
