From Elk Island, we traveled East into Saskatchewan to try and find my Great Uncle Albert Buttle's gravesite; I struck out two previous times. Instead of a map, my Garmin was loaded with the cemetery's GPS coordinates which were wrong but a local Bison rancher with a large spread who has lived in the area for seventy-eight years directed us to the right place. And… Success, I finally found my Great Uncle’s gravesite. From the HydePark Cemetery, we started looking for a place for the night and ended up at Meeting Lake Regional Park (RP) which was “closed for the season” but the gate was open, so we stayed the night for free. This was a great place for Yukon to stay since there was unlimited space with Birds and Squirrels that kept him occupied and exercised; thankfully, he now seems fully recovered.
Off early with hazy skies again (no wonderful Prairie Skies), likely from wildfire smoke, we drove East of Regina until we found a reasonably priced Motel in Wolseley Saskatchewan (SK) from where we could watch the USA Presidential debate.
Had (lousy) pizza and (good) beer watching this big event; still hard to say how the undecided are going to vote.
From Eastern Saskatchewan we made it to a Random campsite in Eastern Manitoba, basically a borrow pit with lots of room. Yukon loves these Random sites because he is leashless and can play and cavort. From Manitoba, it was an easy drive to the Turtle River canoe launch where we spent another night at a Random campsite. We may try this wonderful location again or perhaps try canoeing.
So ends our fast trip across the Prairies… Stay tuned for our Quetico adventures.
