Gros Morne, Newfoundland, Canada
I am glad that I installed window vents when I arrived at Pistolet Bay; they have been really handy with the recent rain since the van windows can be open for air without getting flooded inside. Left the campsite early this morning (06:45) and because of bad weather took a "long-cut" via the French Shore which is a beautiful area terminating at Englee on Canada Bay. Then I backtracked and grabbed a campsite at Cow Head in the northern extreme of Gros Morne; sidetracked once for lunch at "The Arches" Provincial Park. Went to the local theatre which gets sold-out crowds most evenings - was pretty good and everyone is close to the stage; the actors were extremely talented for a small local production.

The Gros Morne peak is 806m; the second highest in Newfoundland . I attacked this 16km trek today with great gusto but was beaten back after progressing 4km and rising to 320m - they recommend if you can't see the peak at this point it is best to return 4km with your tail between your legs (I couldn't see the sea level ground either). As a consolation, I did a 10km hike to view Bakers Creek falls, which was mostly on a narrow-gauge boardwalk. Slept the night at the Berry Hill campground; I am now an annual member for Canada's National and Newfoundland Provincial Parks (memberships paid via savings in camping fees). Today's weather precludes scaling Gros Morne (can't even see halfway up the mountain) and tomorrow's forecast doesn't look good either, so I pushed on to the southern part of the park. With the Irish weather continuing (not real rain but one still gets wet), I rode through the south part of the park visiting Trout River, Woody Point and Lomond then pushed on to the Baie Vert Peninsula --- stay tuned for the next update.

Tidbits:
- Newfoundland outdoors carvings of boats, planes, animals, birds and buildings are quite interesting and well done; obviously lots of time on their hands in the wintertime.
- Believe Newfoundland "bump" signs.
- Fog lamps would be a good investment if one lived here.
