Washington DC, District of Columbia, United States
Why the USA alone?
Aimee marries and she send me a wedding invitation - sure I have to go and see that an American wedding... but some sightseeing is also on order.
and so on July 24 I fly from Frankfurt to Washington DC with United Airlines - a super new plane with a screen on each seat and 10 different movie channels.

Where will I stay
so first where will I stay... so on the airport lets pick up the phone and book a room - that's when I discovered that my English is not the greatest... and then the Metro and shuttle bus... if it only would be a little easier to go around... and it's the first time I'm alone on a plane trip.

Sightseeing in Washington:
along the potamac river to the Arlington Memorial Bridge - everywhere jogging people, I saw some volleyball playing guys and then we are there.... a lot of walking and seeing and all I can say I slept well that night
I loved Washington right away... it was super interesting - I came by:
  •  the Lincoln Memorial
  • the reflective pool - with the Washingtom Memorial reflecting in it
  • the Vietnam Memorial
  • the Korean Memorial with 19 soldier statues
  • the Tidal Basin
  • Jefferson Memorial
  • Washington Memorial

What's to know about Washington DC
  •   it's a beautiful and a worth seeing city
  • it has a lot of history and on every corner you see more history
  • it is clean, bright, white, sparkling and tells you about the war and freedom, the unity and equality, about wisdom and still it looks relaxed, being and easy

July 25 - a day of exploring Washington DC
after a typical American breakfast I start with the Metro to the

St. Johns church
it's the church with the yellow roof - the church of the American president: very nice - friendly - bright - comfortable and American lookingyou can find prayer pillows form some presidents and other important peole like John F. Kennedy, George Washington, Theodor roosevelt

through the Lavayette Park to the white house (tickets are all sold out) - let's not forget the national Christmas tree every one know it... and how it looks like: also that it is since 1800 the house of the president

back to the Lincoln Memorial
  • Abraham Lincoln was the 19thh president of the US and in 1862 he proclaimed the emancipation : the slaves were free
  • a large marmor statue of Lincoln with 36 columns - one for each state (at the time when he lived)
  • it is a meeting point for civic rights: so in 1963 Martin Luther King had here his speech "I have a dream" in front of 200000 people
it is no question: you could be here for hours and watch people and only enjoy being here

then up onto the Washington Memorial.
  •  built in 1885 at the highest building at this time in the world
  • its a 169 m high obelisk
  • First in Peace - First in War and First in the heart of countryman
  • And George Washington was the leader of the American troups in the independence war and he became the 1st president of the United States on April 30, 789
And even during the day: always someone jogging somewhere - or they bike, inline skating - all with Walkman. From up top there is an awesome view - this is one super cool place... you can see especially from up top that the whole city was planned ahead

Vietnam Veteran Memorial
  •  with a polished black granite plate and the names of the 60.000 fallen soldiers in chronological order
  • and a memorial for all the women who served in the armed forces in the Vietnam war

between a stop in the Space & Air museum
where I saw the Egnona gay, the B29 bomber, the atom bombs and why and how they were dropped in Japan to end the war - with video recordings from the crew, how you come to be a member of this crew and how was it for doing this... you would like to ask a lot of questions afterwards
Capitol
  •  on top the statue of freedom
  • it's the seat of the American parliament
  • in the entrance hall is a picture of Pocahontas
  • Every president has a statue here
  • it is the geographical center of the city if you would look at it in a square

Jeffersen Memorial
  •  Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd president of the US
  • he is one of the most honored presidents
  • he was the author of the Declaration of independence and the founder of the Univercity in virginia

with a quick visit inside and I have to say ... there came a point where I did saw enough and walked enough
