Took a flight with the Royal Bhutanese Airline DrukAir out of rainy Bangkok to a unsuspected stop at a dusty Indian military airstrip in Bagdogra. After taking on 50 more western tourists we headed for Paro, Bhutan. Landing there is rather adventurous. The plane has to fly an S-curve through the valleys while descending before quickly leveling for landing. Immediately upon arrival one realizes how remote this Himalayan kingdom is, with only two immigration officers needed.
Got picked up by my guide and driver for the next 8 days and had lunch in Paro before we drove under blue skies to the capitol Timphu . Strolled around a bit and checked into the Riverview Hotel. I still can't believe I actually made it here to Bhutan, which by the way is also called the Land of the Thunder Dragon. Happy and excited :)

Flog mit der Royal Bhutanese Airline DrukAir vom regnerischen Bangkok zu einem unverhofften Stop auf einem staubigen indischen Militaerflugplatz in Bagdogra. Nachdem wir etwa 50 weitere westliche Touristen an Bord genommen hatten, ging es weiter nach Paro, Bhutan. Die Landungsprozedur dort ist ein bischen abenteuerlich. Das Flugzeug muss im Landeanflug in einer S-Kurve durch die Taeler fliegen, bevor es kurz vor der Landung ausgleicht um sicher zu landen. Schon kurz nach der Landung merkt man, dass es nicht viele Leute in dieses Koenigreich im Himalaya verschlaegt. Nur zwei Einreisebeamten werden gebraucht.
Wurde von meiner Reisefuehrerin und dem Fahrer abgeholt und zum Mittagessen nach Paro gefahren. Anschliessend ging es weiter in die Hauptstadt Timphu, zum kurzen Stadtrundgang bevor ich ins Riverview Hotel eincheckte. Ich kann es immer noch nicht glauben, dass ich endlich hier in Bhutan bin, im Land des Donnerdrachen. Gluecklich und aufgeregt :)
