There's one thing about "Incredible India" you'll understand incredibly fast. The second you leave the airplane you're a permanent target. Seen as nothing but a walking cash machine. Absolutely no genuine interest about you or where you come from. Despite the questions.
From the 36 countries I visited in my life i would consider India as the one with the most unwelcoming atmosphere towards foreigners . As soon as someone is talking to you all they are really interested in is the content of your wallet. You cannot trust anyone with anything. Or believe anything they say. 9.5 times out of 10 they only wanna lure you into something.
Now, of course that happens everywhere in the world if you travel but nowhere have I ever experienced it 24/7 like here.
A lot of other people would comment on this with: Welcome to India! But that's exactly what it's not, welcoming! And that includes the completely useless staff of the official Delhi Tourism Information Center where they not only didn't have info's or any kind of knowledge but hardly looked up from chatting on the web when I talked to them. It is not so much the extreme poverty and filth that is shocking you, it's their attitude. Especially when at the same time they want something from you.
Anyway, after another 5:30AM fireworks wake up call the shower didn't work again and I didn't want to punch the damn manager of "India's award winning Hostel" (Hostelworld) for his damn attitude so I decided to check out and found another hotel nearby. Never mind that in the new hotel they advertised and reassured me that they had WiFi, which of course after checking in I found out they had not. Then I had someone coming to fix my broken plug for the TV and when he ripped the plastic cover of the new plug with his teeth he just spit it on my hotel room floor right in front of me as he would have done down on the street. And left it there... But then again, disgusting spitting is a popular custom here. Or coughing their TBC-bacterias right in your face (Metro). Finding a genuine tour operator is virtually impossible. I went to six of them, got intentionally misinformed by Indian Railway officials, driven to wrong agencies by Tuk Tuk drivers so they got their kickbacks and talked to an agency which was perfectly camouflaged as an official Indian Railway office. It was only about 10min into the talk that I realized he was actually only pretending when he started talking about hiring a driver for US$1200...
Eventually I came across an agency which wasn't as greedy as the rest and reluctantly booked a 8-day trip. (4 days w/driver, 4 days train on my own) By the way, waiting time for train information at the official Indian Railway office: 5 hours!
So, I don't think I'll ever come back to India. And why should I if it's not fun?

Da ist eine Sache ueber "Unglaubliches Indien" die man unglaublich schnell versteht. Sobald man das Flugzeug nach der Landung verlaesst, wird man zum permanenten Ziel. Betrachtet als nichts anderes als ein wandernder Geldautomat. Absolut kein wirkliches Interesse an der Person oder wo man herkommt. Trotz aller Fragen. Von den 36 Laendern die ich in meinem Leben bereist habe, wuerde ich Indien als das mit der unfreundlichsten Atmosphere gegenueber Auslaendern bezeichnen. Sobald dich jemand anspricht ist alles was sie wirklich wollen der Inhalt deiner Brieftasche. Du kannst niemanden mit nichts vertrauen. Oder irgentwas glauben, was dir erzaehlt wird. In 9,5 von 10 Faellen wird man nur in eine Touristenfalle gelockt. Natuerlich passiert das ueberall auf der Welt wenn man reist, aber nirgendwo habe ich es wie hier 24 Stunden/7 Tage die Woche erlebt.
Eine Menge anderer Leute werden nun sagen: Willkommen in Indien! Aber gerade das ist es eben nicht: willkommend! Und das gilt auch fuer das offizielle Delhi Tourist Informationszentrum, wo man nicht nur keinerlei Info's hatte, sondern es auch nicht fuer noetig hielt auch nur eine Sekunde vom Internet Chat aufzuschauen als ich mit denen sprach. Es ist nicht mal so sehr das Elend und die Armut was schockiert, es ist vielmehr wie man hier begegnet wird.
Besonders wenn sie zur gleichen Zeit etwas von einem wollen.
Wie auch immer, nach dem erneuten 5:30 Feuerwerks-Wecker, die Dusche wieder nicht funktionierte und ich dem Hotelmanager von "Indien's preisgekroentem Hostel" (Hostelworld) fuer seine Unfreundlichkeit keine reinhauen wollte, checkte ich aus und suchte mir ein anderes Hotel. Kaum erwaehnenswert, dass das andere Hotel trotz gegenteiliger Werbung und nochmaliger Nachfrage natuerlich kein WiFi hat. Dann liess ich jemandem vom Hotel kommen um die defekte Steckdose zum Fernseher zu reparieren. Als der die Verpackung der neuen Dose mit seinen Zaehnen aufriss spuckte er sie einfach direkt vor mir auf den Fussboden. So wie sie es auch hier auf der Strasse tun. Natuerlich machte er sich auch nicht die Muehe die Verpackung spaeter aufzuheben... Aber man muss natuerlich auch verstehen, dass ekelhaftes Spucken hier ein Volkssport ist. Oder das dir die TBC-Erreger direkt ins Gesicht gehustet werden (U-Bahn). Eine ordentliche Reiseagentur zu finden ist in Indien nahezu unmoeglich. Ich klapperte 6 von denen ab, wurde von offiziellen Bahnmitarbeitern misinformiert, von Tuk Tuk Fahrern absichtlich zu Agenturen gefahren nach denen ich nicht gefragt hatte (so verdienen die sich Kommission) und sprach mit einer perfekt als offizielles Indien Bahn Buero getarnten Reiseagentur. Bis ich nach etwa 10min Gespraech merkte, dass sie das nur vorgaben und eigentlich Touren mit privatem Fahrer fuer 1200$ verkaufen wollten...
Dann fand ich eine Agentur die nicht ganz so gierig war und buchte widerwillig 4 Tage mitFahrer und 4 Tage allein mit dem Zug unterwegs. Uebrigens war die Wartezeit beim offiziellen Bahnbuero fuer Zugauskuenfte und Buchungen 5 Stunden!
Nach all dem denke ich nicht, dass ich nochmal nach Indien komme. Und warum auch, wenn's keinen Spass macht?
