Today was an adventure day and we went to Nohoch Che'en for some zip lining above the jungle canopy and some cave tubing under a mountain.
We started off with the zip lining and went soaring 70-120 feet above the trees and over a river, with the longest run being 750 feet
Then it was time for a bite of lunch before diving in for some cave tubing. There was a 40 minute hike through the rain forest before getting to the spot where we could put in the Caves Branch River. But then the tubes were tethered together and we hopped in the river for a short float until we were going right through the mountain and into a cave, complete with stalactites, stalagmites and bats! We even saw an underground waterfall that lead into the "Crystal Cathedral", a spiritual place used by the Mayans.
It was amazing to be floating in complete darkness with only a headlamp to guide the way. We saw all sorts of cave features including cavern with a small underground waterfall. After coming out of the cave we had some float time under the sun as we made our way back to the start point where we could pull out of the water. We, of course, enjoyed the beautiful rain forest scenery along the way and were treated to seeing some tropical birds.
Dinners at the lodge are served in their open air dining room where you are seated at large tables with other guests. So everyone then gets to share stories of what they did and saw that day. Dinner starts at 7pm with bread being served, this is followed by a soup which is followed by a salad and by the time each of these courses are served and cleared it's 8pm before the main course is served. So once the kids have eaten their dessert they are more than ready for bed! And so are Bill and myself!!
