Los Angeles, California, United States
Today Monday we arrived in Los Angeles.... We had a great trip down the coast yesterday and today.
It took around an hour to drive out of San Francisco, I had bought a GPS but couldnt work out how to use it at first so Peter read the map and I drove and we did pretty good I thought . Our first stop was Pebble Beach Golf Resort....totally amazing, its a 17 mile circuit along the coast and filled with I think 4 different golf courses and many houses and Condo's. We stopped at the main Course and Peter was very excited, he went off and got photos around the locker room after befriending the woman in charge, he even used the washroom there.. He bought himself a small hand towel for about $22 he said a round of golf was like $450.00...Jo and I just went and had coffee at the market place, if anyone is interested I still have a paperbag from the shop..just plain brown but it is from Pebble Beach...I may put it on E Bay !
We drove out the back gate of Pebble Beach and right into Carmel..it was a bit busy so we just did a loop and back onto the highway..I guess it may be nice there but we couldnt tell.

The drive around the Big Sur Mountains along the coast bought many stunning Vistas and Pistol Pete's index finger was suffering ADD...I am sure he filled a 8 gig photo card !! Coming into San Simeon we saw a Elephant Seal colony just lying on the sand .... The town wasnt as big as I thought it would be but quite pretty. We were going to go to the Hurst Mansion which sits high on a hill overlooking the town, but we discovered you have to pay seperately for each portion of the house that you tour..and there were about 4 portions..So we didnt bother, just took a photo from the highway..:(
We stayed the night in Morro Bay which turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Quite the quirky seaside village. We went down to the wharf area and had some dinner and a few beers. Great spot.
Right down the coast from SanFrancisco the fog came and went and because of that the temperatures were quite cool.
We stopped for petrol today and couldnt work out how to open the Petrol cap...after searching everywhere we realised that it wasnt locked.. you just opened it..Then Peter couldnt get the petrol pump working and when I went to get help we discovered you just had to pay first, before you pump..well we got there in the end..
Today we stopped in at Santa Barbara, we drove through the rich gated area by accident, anyway we ended up in the Marina area and we drove out onto the Pier, got some free Valet parking and walked around, found a poor pelican with a hook stuck in his mouth pouch and a tear, I told the bloke in the fishing hut and apparently its a common thing as the fishermen swing their catch back over their heads and by the time the turn around the Pelicans have grabbed the fish ...and a mouthful of Hook ! Its a really beautiful spot.
Continuing on we drove down the Malibu coast line through the Santa Barbara Mountains looking at all the mansions up in the hills as well as hanging over the beaches.. there was a lot of people out along the beaches and the Baywatch lifeguards all on duty in their little blue huts.
Arrived at the Hotel Admiralty International in Marina Del Ray...We took a 15 min walk down Washington Street to the end of Venice Beach and had dinner.. Awesome Mexican food..
Tomorrow we tour LA.
Post Script...Jo & Peter just returned to the room after a nightcap in the bar (3hrs) to put it mildly, I dont think we will make our 0830 kickoff....Hmmmmmm I have some pillows beside the bed to throw at the snorers ...Gunna be a long night !
