Slow Start to the day

Sedona, Arizona, United States
After a rather sluggish start to the day..we managed to get over to the Hire car centre which is MASSIVE..getting slugged another $800 for the hire car...apparently a Mid sized 4 wheel drive is a small Rav 4 !! and apparently if you have a second driver its an extra $10 per day..on and on and on..We ended up having to upgrade to a mid sized 4 wheel drive..I wanted the Black Mazda, Peter wanted the Grey Hyundi and Jo the White Hyundi....We drove off in the white one...Once we sorted everything it has turned out to be quite comfortable..
First stop of the Day was Hoover Dam ..last time I was here the new Bridge wasnt quite complete so it was good to see it again..Peter of course being a man was all interested in the Engineering aspects of it all so gave it all a thorough check out..Jo & I took a couple of photos then sat in the car.. Next stop Brunch at Kingman at the super large Truck stop Diner...OMG did I mention I love diner food ! Picked up some "Mikes trail mix" for the car and we were off again.
The countryside was very much like a moonscape, very mountainous with very little foliage..after Kingman the countryside changed to green still no big bush but grass from the rains..Speaking of which it absolutely bucketed down at own stage and there were cars and trucks going everywhere..pulling over , slowing down..overtaking ..pulling out....just crazy.. We saw a crashed car on the otherside with the police there, they must have rolled as it was a real mess.. I think it was about 1430 when we got to the South Rim of the Canyon...What can you say except "AWESOME" took another 100 photos, its just so amazing to see..Both Peter & Jo said it was different from the West Rim. Walked around for a while before getting back into Harry the Hyundi and headed for Flagstaff then Sedona for 2 nights.
Sedona was an absolute surprise..its 23 miles south of Flagstaff and the road drops about 1500 mtrs and into a stunning Valley surrounded by huge red mountains all odd shapes.. All the houses are built to blend in with the natural colours of the area and its absolutely stunning. I look forward to exploring the town tomorrow..
