Sedona, Arizona, United States
What a start to the day...Great breakfast was included in the Tarriff and we got a room upgrade...trouble travelling with 3 adults who dont sleep together...most rooms are two queens. Anyway we were picked up by Cowboy Mike in the Red Rock Jeep and we took off to the South and then turned off into the surrounding mountains and followed a red dirt rocky track for about 45 minutes , it remined me of the roads in PNG with rock sticking up anyway the high point of the ride was Mike guaranteed us we would lose weight, so that was a bonus..lol. Reaching an old cabin at the top we were joined by about 8 Pink Jeeps...Pink Jeeps are a different tour company and are everywhere..So if you ever come to Sedona use one of the original companies.
Cowboy Mike told us all the stories of the original settlers and also of the local Indians and how they used the local grasses and shubs .. It was a great ride and I thank daughter Jaime for the Heads up on it, we are all so pleased we came to Sedona because it is stunning. All the dwellings have to blend in with the surrounds, McDonalds has a small green "M" and KFC blended in so much they went broke !!
Mike sent us up the mountain to an old mining town " Jerome" about a 30 minute drive South of town. It was a lot of fun all these old buildings turned all Art & Crafty. We found a wonderful christmas shop.. We had Lunch at a BBQ place, It must have been a tad Redneck as the beers came in jars.. I had Beef tips with Peppers,Onion & cheese on a Hoagy & Jo had a Pulled Pork with coleslaw I think..OMG it was wonderful..(Ooompa Looompa) Everyday I wake up telling myself no more fat food, but when I see that Menu I just cave in.
More photos...
Back in town Jo was dropped at the Laundomat..(she is now the proud owner of about $10 worth of quarters...) Peter & I went to look for a bar to go to later and ended up on the other side of town at an Indian gift shop...I bought a leather Neck tie with an Indian sun emblem...authentic vintage (apparently) $60 the new ones were $175 so I was happy to do vintage..
Pulling out of Sedona tomorrow early and off to Monument Valley then onto Farmington for 2 nights.
Highly recommend Sedona, its beautiful.
