Tombstone & Bisbee, Arizona, United States
Arrived at Tombstone mid morning after an hour or so drive from Safford.. First stop Boot Hill the old cemetary. Very funny, free to get in but you pay $3 for a list of all the Graves whos in them and how they died..Apparently it used to hold over 2000 graves but now there is only about 250. Look at the photos and enlarge them if you cant see the writing on the tombstones.
After that we went down into the town and went for a Gunfight show which was pretty cheesy and so was the Trolly tour .. However, a walk around the town showed they have some really nice shops and one of the Bars has a basement when you can see into a dug out..word had it that the guy that lived down there was secretly stealing the hidden silver... Overall we were pretty disappointed in Tombstone..the only highlight was the cemetary...I think they are all struggling to hold onto something
that seems to be past its useby date...or they maybe need to think of something to bring it alive again as it all looks too new...not to many original buildings. On the otherhand   26 miles down the road at Bisbee where we are staying, is awesome. Its an old mining town and it has all these old houses or shacks hanging off the hillside, you can see the old mine shafts in the side of the hill.. At the back of the old town there is a new town as well as a working mine..Copper or silver I am not sure.
We were told to go to a restaurant called Santiagos for the best Mexican...So once we found "Audreys" which prooved very difficult, off we went for a walk, after about 500 stairs we discovered they just went to a house and we had to go back down the same way ..walking walking walking...ended up asking a bloke and he said "Na y'all need to go back through the town to the other side !!! So walking walking walking again and we gave up and went to a different place, had a lovely meal then when we were walking back to Audreys...there it was "Santiagos" right next to our accommodation...Darn !
Bisbee is a really quirky town..there are 2 Saloons next to us, one was full of Bikies and the next was so dark i couldnt see anyone , so we went to the third and after 1 drink we left... The place around us is full of lost Hippies I think either that or they are still coming down from their 70's stoner !! It all makes for some nice photos anyway..
Bad news for they day was I discovered I had been scammed on my Travelcard...way back in SanFrancisco.. Luckily they did it about 10 days after I left so I will be able to proove I wasnt there..so I have to fill out claim forms and fax the bank etc etc etc, gotta love paperwork when you have no access to printers and faxes and it cant be done on line... on the bright side they took $1000 and not the lot, so it could have been worse. Thankfully the nice man at the Bank sorted it all out and old card cancelled and new card now in place...thank goodness for Skype.
Tomorrow sees us in Carlsbad New Mexico...so its goodnite from me.
