Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, United States
Started the day in Chattanooga and went of to see the Chattanooga Choo Choo..very ordinary and the station wasnt a patch on Nashvilles Union Station. We then went up the Mountain where all the action is, fantastic views over the city and at some points you are able to see 7 States. Peter went to Ruby Falls which I think was a waterfall inside a cave. Jo & I ventured out to the Incline railway..apparently the steepest railroad in the world..We took them at their word and didnt ride it, just photographed it. After that we drove down the road the long way and found Point Park. This was an area on the end of the mountain range which has magnificent views. It was used by both the Union Army as well as the Confederate Army...not sure to whos advantage..Its a lovely park, and the homes all in that area were simply magnificent. Obviously where the well off live.
From Chattanooga we travelled North East to Pidgeon Forge in the Smokey Mountains .. I made Peter & Jo listen to the Bluegrass Channel on the satelite radio...good old Banjo music. Dolly Parton country.. and BANG !! There we were in this town which we wrongly assumed to be a back water.. The road through Pigeon Forge was 6 lanes....3 each way and busy busy busy...both sides of the road were lined with Fun Parks, souveneir shops motel after motel and diners ! It was like being in the centre of a show.! and we were yet to see Dollywood !! We checked into our motel the Vacationer Lodge..It was good for a change except the internet was dodgy and we gave up on that. Dollywood was closed so we just drove down to have a look at the front of it. The Carpark was huge, Peter reckons it would take about 10,000 cars. She has Splash Mountain next door.   We were just blown away by the size of everything.
Gettlinburg which is 5 miles down the road was much nicer, still had the Show theme happening but on a lessor scale.. Apparently the Smokey Mountains get the most visitors every year by a mile..second was Grand Canyon. I guess here is more easily to get to than Nevada.
Dinner tonight was at the Texas Roadhouse..bloody beautiful.. nearly as good as the Chinese in Sanfrancisco. Hopefully we will get back again soon.
