Savannagh, Georgia, United States
Savannagh...another beautiful town, sister city to Charleston and a city with the biggest Historic area and setted just 3 years after Charleston. Both towns are very similar but Savannagh was the first planned city and it has 22 Squares (small parks) Each one is usually decorated with monuments and lovely gardens. Forrest Gump was filmed here, these Squares were where he sat and contemplated life and the Box of Chocolates.. Arrived yesterday and did a trolley tour to get our bearings. I think we got the worst driver ever as we all ended up whip lashed.. Anyway from there we checked into the hotel..Great room 3 separate beds.. The hotel is new and very nice so we were all happy campers.Took a walk down to the waterfront, Savannagh has the busiest Port on the East Coast and these huge ships come chugging up the River to the Port. Funny to watch.
We had Peppered Prawns & rice for dinner with wine then waddled home via the shops .
Today I set out alone to take a big walk...I ended up in downtown and I was looking for a shop on Abercorn Street a woman had told us about..which I couldnt find, anyway I got directed to a different street..Bull Street about 4 blocks from downtown..still wrong shop anyway I ended up 30 blocks from downtown and still got the wrong shop..so gave up.. after buying a lovely outfit from my very new best friend..just as I was leaving a storm was brewing so I called into a hairdressers and decided to get some colour done and wait out the Storm... Well you would have thought I had been going there forever..Barbie would be pleased we found the correct Number 7 colour and my other new friend kim was very pleased with her handiwork..turned into a fun afternoon..rain still hadnt stopped so they called a cab for me and $10 later was home nice and dry..
Had a quick clean up and Jo and I were off again to do the Paula Deen tour. Mickey picked us up and there were two other couples, a retired detective from Virginia and his wife and a couple from Tampa Florida ..we had a fun night .. the tour just took us around to where Paula started out..her old house, then her steps up the ladder..She started with a $200 tax refund and making bagged lunches her 2 sons would then go on and sell...She was called the Bag Lady. that was about 1986 or something and last year she turned over like 55 million..amazing and all from Fine Southern Food.. So next was our visit to the restaurant... We dined on Fried Chicken, Dry rubbed ribs, Awesome Mashed Potato ,Gravy, Baked Beans&Bacon, sweet corn on the cob, broard beans, Collard Greens,Macaroni Cheese...and let me tell you it was amazing..that was buffet so we could eat as much as we liked...They delivered dessert to the table which was an assortment and the table favorite was the Peach Cobbler...The staff also entertained us with an Impromptu performance which was very clevererly done. I won a fridge magnet.
