Bariloche Patagonia, Río Negro, Argentina
Set off from Buenos Aires yesterday morning for yet another flight. This time domestic so no customs which was good. I think the flight was about 2 hours and when we were flying in it was like landing on Mars as there was just barren brown land, closer into Bariloche there was a tiny bit of green and we could see lots of sheep..We thought Fernando had gone Loco as he was saying how beautiful it was etc...We will see. We are staying at a nice Hotel close to the town which is good so after we sorted our rooms (we were given a double bed) we took off down the the town. As this place was settled by the Swiss it is very much an Alpine town. The mountains around all have snow on them and the wind is blowing straight off that so its freezing. The shops down town have a Siesta between 2pm and 4pm so we waited until after 4pm to go. The are some great shops and I bought a beanie and some gloves which were very cheap. They have the biggest most amazing chocolate shops..shame I dont do Chocolate..I went into a Supermarket and they are very much like ours.
They have a large square just as you get to the main street and all the young kids hang there with their skate boards, there is also a bloke with a huge Saint Bernard dog and two pups ...really cute but charging for photos of course so we had to sneak a couple. Back at the hotel we had a few wines in the lovely lounge area where they have an open fire and then we had a terrific dinner in the restaurant
I sat with David & Arlene and Bo & LuLu we had so much fun teaching Bo aussie slang and swear words..lol He and Lulu live in Coffs Harbour but ar Chinese born so speak broken english..we had a lot of laughs. This morning we had breakfast while listening to the Football..Go the Mighty Storm !! Bad luck Collingwood..now we await the Hawks & Adelaide results. Its great to get free internet and computers..
We were on the bus and took a drive out around the lakes and the fine hotels and then we went up on a chairlift to the top of the mountain and had some hot chocolate some topped up with Brandy Peter liked it so much he had 2...He also saw snow for the first time and Yanky David talked him into doing a Snow angel...quite funny considering there was only a cup full of snow..haha
Then we were back to town for lunch ..Mushroom soup with fresh crusty bread & garlic butter followed by spaghetti then Strudel & Icecream..There is certainly no shortage of food on this trip. Took a walk back through town, took some photos of the trees with Crochet jumpers on ( I think Lauren should do that ) Peter also got some more Indocid tablets..he got some the other day without a prescription so he and Aussie Dave got some more. They cant believe they dont have to have a prescription.. Peter also bought a nice weather proof jacket.
Our washing dries really quickly here withthe heating in the room but to sit in the room its rediculously hot..So we have had to open the windows.
The one of the two Indian couples are Hindu and the man dresses normally and had a coat etc but the wife is walking around today in a Sari with a shawl...she apparently had long underwear on but !!! How freakin stupid are they.
Tomorrow we have a full day travelling..Boat, bus, Boat, bus, boat & bus..... The Local guide say we are not to take any food through the border tomorrow..anything unopened has to be declared otherwise there will be trouble..The Indians are now worried because they have food and they will want to keep it ..so I am guessing there will be a dust up on the border tomorrow. !
