Santiago Chile, Chile
Early start from the hotel this morning for a quick trip to Puerto Montt before flying to Santiago Chile.. First stop was at a lookout overlooking the the Port and it was freezing, so it was just a snap shot in the true sense of the word. from there we drove down to the town square where they even had a McDonalds...There were a lot of Stray dogs about the town..some were just roaming and others were curled up in storefronts trying to keep warm...I wanted to bundle them up and put them on the bus.. Apparently they are just left by there owners when they move and so they then become what they call town dogs and have to beg..just like the homeless people.. After the town square we went to the fish market, but as it was Sunday and a bit early they were just setting up for the day.. So they were chopping into the muscles and shell fish and laying out the fish.. They also had a few cheese stalls which also sold sausage meats and small blocks of what looked like butter just the way Grandma used to make.. Outside the fishmarket were a few of the other tourist stalls that sold a lot of woodwork and knitted gear like socks and childrens jumpers all very colourful. i wish I had some room in my bag..I resorted to buying a lime green beanie which I am sure I couyld pass onto sister Lauren or Ruby as I am sure its more there style..But I am keeping the chilean economy afloat I guess. Off to the airport for yet another flight with LAN Airlines...who are still recovering from their changing check in system..Once again a huge lineup but thankfully our local guide Alex managed to get us separated into a group check in which for those of us who are travelling overweight ..Totally awesome !! It was about a 2 hour flight to Santiago and we were out and onto the bus in no time..Driving into the city we followed a canal with just a small amount of water in it..and all along there was the slum area..some just a simple Lean Too's big enough for 1 or 2 people.. very sad to see and quite a typical welcome vista to Santiago as in other places we have been to. we passed through a tunnel which was 2 miles long and out the other side all was perfect in the world..Beautiful Santiago and onto the Sheraton Hotel.. We have a chill out afternoon here today and then a dinner at 1930..wonderful.
