Santiago Chile, Chile
What a crap nights sleep last night, we cant seem to get the room temperature right so we opened the window, but then the smokers must sit below and we ended up with a room full of smoke..then the pillows were so huge it felt like I was practically sitting upright so I ended up fishing out my jumper and using that instead of the pillow. I got onto housekeeping today and am now in possession of 2 small pillows..I am excited ! Had a mighty fine breakfast this morning in the hotel..fwesh qua-sonts (croissants) warmed with jam & butter OMG !! I have to make the most of it before the crash diet starts when I get home...
Took off for a city tour around 9am starting with a drive up to the lookout which you get a good view all over the city as you climb up the mountain, they also have a Funicular rail car that goes up as well from there we called into a jewellery shop (yes there is one special stop in every city) I did even buy something at this one ..a copper bangle & earrings and a new fridge magnet. We then drove through the older part of the city and parked the bus and we walked around a few streets and through a magnificent church. Once again we saw a lot of homeless dogs..it stresses me out that they have nowhere to go..
We had a fine lunch at the hotel before getting back on the bus and heading out to the Undurraga Winery, about 50 minutes drive north of the city. Fell asleep again on the bus, I think I am still feeling the effects of the travel sickness tablets, maybe I overdosed on them.. The winery tour was pretty basic but we had a lot of fun. They served us up some fantastic wines and the best Savignon Blanc I have ever had..in fact Arlene and I enjoyed it so much we bought a couple of bottles to drink tomorrow night at our farewell Chile dinner.
Tonight most of the others have gone to a Chilean Folk dinner and due to a mix up in my tours I ended up missing out, however I was happy to go out with others to enjoy a Whopper at Burger King..Then taking a walk around the downtown and into a fantastic shopping centre. Santiago is a really nice city. Tomorrow we are driving out to the seaside at Vapara
