A drive in the Avalon countryside

Saint Johns Newfoundland, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Got up early today after a lousy nights sleep. This morning we made our own Brekky in our deluxe suite...we even made some sandwiches for lunch as Kaff is drawing the line at having chips everyday !
Today we headed North up the coast and visiting all the small Bays & Coves, they are all really close together and not that far from St Johns, they mostly rely on crab fishing in this area .
After hitting the top of Avalon at Pouch Cove we came down the western side of the Peninsula through Portugal Cove and Paradise. Things became a bit tense in the car after Kaff took over driving here !!  She drove from Conception Bay ( we didn't want to tarry there too long) to Holyrood.  After always being the driver its hard to sit in the passenger seat especially when your so near the gutter. I may have to have a hit of whiskey tomorrow before I get in. However we are now both a bit better at driving on the right.
The centre of the Southern part of Avalon is a Wilderness reserve, they have Moose & birds and I don't know what else as we saw nothing as we crossed from Holyrood to Witless Bay. In Witless we were in search of the Eco Sanctuary which we clean missed, we stopped past Mobile and had lunch at Tors Bay, before going in search of a toilet which we couldn't find, but we did find a place where a man makes all kinds of model boats and he has them floating in a pond. Very beautiful they were too.
Coming back into Witless we took a random turn down a narrow lane and came upon the Santuary where we were looking for, there was no buildings or toilets it was just an area at the end of a road by the water . On the water there were thousands of birds and we didn't know at the time that they were the famous Puffins that populate the small island offshore. We spoke to a bloke who happily shared his binoculars with me. We watched the tour boats going around the island where the Puffins nest something like our Fairy Penguins. The whales were also putting on a show for the tourists. So in the next 30 minutes I got the whole history of the Puffin as well as the whales as well as everything else there is to know about Newfoundland...whilst I was left talking to the man, Kaff went off to get a picture closer and unbeknownst to me she was able to do a squat.. So while she was relieving herself and taking pictures I was left with the chatty man who kept standing way too close and touching me as he spoke !!!
Back on the road in search of washrooms which we ended up finding in Bay of Bulls. This is where the tour boats depart from O'Briens being the most popular one. From there we just drove back into town and its now rest time. We are going out walking later tonight to see the cathedral.
We head out tomorrow to start our camping..it is going to be funny, probably better than this Hostel as our room is at the top so we have to climb 30 odd stairs to get here, almost like Kathryns flat in China.

Awesome :) We spent big bucks on one of those tours to spot a puffin. They had a guarantee that if you didn't see one you get your $$ back so we were all for it. Got out there - not one bloody puffin. Then 'apparently' one was spotted a good 100m away. As you know puffins are knee high to grasshoppers so screamed nothing but suspicious to me. Looked nothing more than a piece of black driftwood with an orange/red dot on it. Needless to say - no refunds were given. Lol.
