Were happy little campers

Trinity, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
WOW what a day today was !! Took off from the cabin at 0830 and first stop was Port Union , this is the first Union built town, the first of its kind in North America. They had some old buildings by the wharf and a lighthouse.
After Port Union we drove north to Elliston, we stopped at the information centre and the lady gave us a map and some verbal directions, but we could hardly understand her and we ended up going the wrong way .. eventually we found our way back and started again. There was another Iceberg of the headland here which we got soooo excited about, we only took about 500 photos of it. We were so sure we were going to miss them ! Turning left at the B&B like we were supposed to we saw the root cellars where the folk would store their food etc to keep cool, there were plenty of them. Further on was the Puffin lookout. Kathryn made friends with the bloke running the show , so she was full of information. It was just amazing, once again it was a huge rock formation off the headland and it was covered in nesting birds. The man said if we stayed long enough the Puffins would come close and he was right. Kathryn sat about 2 mtres from them and they just gathered around and it was a photographers dream...considering it cost nothing more than a donation it was brilliant. I was rapt in the photos.
From Elliston we headed up to Cape Bonavista....and what a vista, we could see 3 more Icebergs and a heap of whales, they are such a time waster watching them ...but a good one. Met a couple from Ontario who were travelling by motorbike, it would have been damp this morning as it rained on and off, but was totally sunshine by Bonavista. We clumped about over the rocks and saw the lighthouse before calling it quits and going into town...The town itself is the most hotch potch place I have ever seen, I think people just built there houses anywhere but not in a straight line , then they have put the roads in...So to drive through its full of narrow lanes twisting and turning and going nowhere...They don't seem to have a main street but maybe have a general store and that's it. The whole Peninsula is dotted with small towns and we have no idea where they shop of what they do for income aside from fishing.
We went into the Dungeons which was like a small bay with caves running through the rock to the sea. There were more whales there too, maybe a pod of 4.
We left Bonavista and drove south and had lunch at "Sues" at Birchy Cove. It was great, we sat on the verandah and looked at the iceberg..I had Crab Au Gratin and it was Yummo..There were some bikers there from Clarenville we spoke with. There was a lot of motorbikes about as the day turned out really hot.
From there we wound our way back south through Princeton and finally back at the cottage in Trinity ...time to recharge again and check our washing..the place looks like a Chinese Laundry with knickers and socks hanging everywhere.... The camp grounds here are definitely have limited amenities.
