L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
L'Anse aux Meadows:     Well we have made it to the top...Viking country.  Left Rocky Harbour at 0830 and drove straight through to Port au Choix with just one photo stop at River of Ponds.
In Port au Choix ( we cant pronounce this so we are just calling it Port of Chooks) We drove out to the headland to see the Lighthouse . It was beautiful, the day was glorious and it was all just picturesque and lovely. They even had some red chairs to sit in.
Port au Choix was an Archaic Eskimo hunting area where they hunt seals for meat and the skins as well, they also get oil from them. It still is a seal hunting area. In the town they also had an ancient Eskimo burial ground. It was a good stop. After great debate we decided to stop at the Anchor Café for pit stop, coke & coffee. Kaff also got up close and personal with a fisherman. I have decided they had the nicest washrooms in Newfoundland. I did promise to like them on their Facebook page.
Leaving Port of Chooks we drove through the middle then a bit south to Roddington in search of the Moose to no avail so we gave up and continued on to L'Anse aux Meadows we found our campsite at Vikings RV Park. OMG ! It was a block of land cleared out of the scrub and not a tree in sight. There was a building like a house but no one was answering the door so we decided to drive further on to see what was about . We found the visitors centre and worked out what the plan is for tomorrow. On our way back to the RV place we found some cabins and as luck would have it they had a 2 bedroom cabin free so we booked it. I sent an email to the RV place to say we wouldn't be coming. The cabin is awesome but after a tent any building is exciting..lol   We even have the pulley system clothes line, so we did a quick wash and hung it out. We have a nice view of a small harbour out the back and inside we have a TV which is extra exciting..
I got chatting with the man 2 cabins down while he was cooking his BBQ Dinner, I did try to get an invite for dinner as it smelt so good, anyway I told him that we had travelled all over looking for a moose and he said " There is one at the visitors centre carpark 15 min ago !"  So I grabbed Kaff and we shot down there and sure enough there it was. It was a ways away but with the zoom I managed to get a picture anyway..It was a great relief to finally see one. Because we are not on the road at Dusk or Dawn we are missing them.
We drove back to a restaurant that was advertising Snow Crab & Newfoundland food. It was a bit of a disappointment...No Lobster and I was so looking forward to it. Its out of season apparently. Obviously they have no freezer. I ended up with Homemade Fishcakes which were nice, but served with rice, boiled carrots and a fresh garden salad..bit of a strange mix but it went down well.
Back in our cottage now watching TV ..YAY !
