Deer Lake, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Deer Lake:   Just a short one today. We left L'Anse aux Meadow 0900 and as soon as we left it started spitting and it rained on and off all the way to Gros Morne. Traffic was bad with a couple of those massive Bus style RV towing their touring car and travelling between 60 & 70 kph...The locals don't seem to mind, but us Australians have a much more aggressive style to driving, after about 30 minutes Kaff rounded them up and passed 3 cars in a row, then she passed the 2 Buses and we were off like a rocket. After that the traffic seemed to disappear.
We had booked a tent site in Deer Lake but as it was wet I decided to try and book a cabin instead, thankfully there was one cute little cottage left so we took that . As we are not tenting now until New Brunswick we had a clean out of the car. I was so chuffed to be able to get the tent back into its original box as we needed it to fit back in as its going as excess baggage when we fly to Moncton.
We couldn't work the TV in the cabin, we both had a go at it and failed miserably, we asked a woman who was walking by and she at least got a picture up but no sound, I gave in and went up the office to get someone to sort it and by the time I got back it was working..apparently it came on by itself ?? magic. Anyway the bloke from the park came up and showed us how to use the remote and how to change a channel. He told us a few tales and was quite a character, he gave us a restaurant to try near Moncton so we will see if we make it.
Another car day tomorrow as we head to Clarenville.
Its my son Lachlans birthday today so I tried to call but it went to messagebank Oh well I will have to settle for a facebook message.
Todays Thursday: last night we were invited to one of the Vans to check out the Camp chairs which we had given to 2 young girls, they were decorating the chairs with paint etc . We had a long chat with the Mum, Delia. They came from Little Green Bay which was near Flower Cove. Itt must have been so big I missed it. We chatted about their life etc and it was very interesting. Another lady Myrna came over and she was from Cow Head which we didn't actually go into but we knew where it was. Turns out she has lived in Gros Morne all her life and as a child she used to visit the family Mudge who lived in the fishermans hut & house we went to. She said she used to think the house was huge until she revisited a couple of years ago..I guess everything looks big through a childs eyes.   It was so nice talking to the ladies and listening to their accents. Delia was really Irish sounding. They seem to drop their "H's". Anyway she is a stay at home Mum and her husband works like everyone elses husband..in Alberta. He has been doing 3 to 4 months away and 1 week home and it takes a whole day to get to and from...but he is soon changing to 20 days on and 10 days off.. and she is very excited about it . She keeps busy by running after kids and cooking. She makes her own bread etc as she has to drive to St Anthony to the shops which is about an hour away.
We left them our left over stuff..food etc this morning as we took off.
Once again it rained on and off the whole way.
We got into Clarenden at about 1400 and managed to find our B&B "The Island View B&B. This is a first for us as we find it a bit uncomfortable staying in someone elses house.    Anyway we pulled in and the Boss was out but a young girl showed us to our room. Twin beds with a bathroom across the hall. The house is totally wallpapered everywhere and all the beds have patchwork quilts. There are over 60 dolls. When Patricia came home she gave us the royal tour. We got to see all her dolls and photos of her ancestors. She has old treddle sewing machines and old cupboards and you name it she has it.. Kaff is feeling right at home here..where I want to box everything up to make space.. I am sure I will develop a tic by the time we leave tomorrow morning !
Anyway its a full house tonight . she has another 2 ensuite bedrooms. She lives downstairs in the basement with her dog.   Tomorrow we are back in St Johns.

P.S.S. Our fire-cracking neighbours have left the building (all of a sudden and during early evening) and now the house is being re-painted. Evicted perhaps? :)
