Englishtown, Nova Scotia, Canada
Englishtown Cape Breton Nova Scotia: Its been a big driving day today. We got up early and had breakfast and had left the Travelodge in New Glasgow by 0700. We took a drive through the town but it didnt have a great deal to see, so we hit the highway to get some K's under our belt. We had planned to just do the bottom half of the National Park, so we called in and had a look at Antiginish which was a University town, the Uni was huge. The town also was pretty nice. Then back on the highway andCrossed the bridge and onto Cape Breton Island. We decided as we we not going to the top we would take the coastal road which I mus say was pretty disappointing after the scenery we have seen. We stopped for petrol at Margaree Falls and we couldnt find a Servo so we called into the Visitors centre for directions and she ended up talking us into going right around the top of Cape Breton. We had been told that it was an 8 hour trip which was rubbish. Luckily we changed our mind because as soon as we headed North the Scenery changed to excellent. Steep cliffs , rolling green hills and pretty seaside towns like Cheticamp. This part of the coast has gone back to French heritage as this is where the Acadians came from. So this morning is was Scottish, then we had French.. We discovered another red Chair at a look out so we stopped there and several other lookouts, in fact whenever there was a binocular sign we stopped !! Ar Kaff has got many scenery photos today.
We got stuck behind a Log truck across the top, then it was an RV ..the same RV we had been behind twice already, thankfully they did eventually pull over to let us pass. There were also lots of cyclists on the road...Pesky cyclists who take up too much road !! Lol You can actually get a bloke to follow you if you only want to go part of the way. Its a tour I think . Coming down the eastern side there wasnt too many stops and the road was pretty windy. We were on the lookout for Englishtown. We had been told that the short cut via ferry to Englishtown was closed but when we came past we saw it was open so we quickly changed direction and headed for the Ferry. Lucky for us we did as we drove past the Campground. " The Joyfull Journey" RV & Campgrounds. So we turned around and went back. We were going to try to get a cabin as it has rained on and off most of the day. And I didnt want the tent to get wet or blow away. So I went in and of course they had no cabins, she called two other places to no avail, she then offered us a caravan for $20 extra so we jumped at it.. Not on it as it would have crashed down around us... We were very quietly pissing ourselves laughing. Its the dodgiest Van Park I have ever seen, however we are not complaining as hopefully the tarp ontop of the caravan doesnt leak or we will be in trouble. We are in the middle of nowhere, no shops within cooee so tonights supper we have soup crackers and cereal and 2 bagels. All will be good in the world. We are fortunate enough to be able to use the loo in the van but we have to shower in the dodgy bathroom. Its like we are camping in the Caravan. I have the bed tonight and Kathryn has the lounge. In for a quality night I say.
