Englishtown, Nova Scotia, Canada
Englishtown:    Had a good nights sleep in the Van and thankfully we have the van and not the tent as it has rained on & off all day today. After a light breakfast...very light because I ate my Bagel for tea last night, I dashed off for a shower. We had to put money in the push in slot to get the hot water to work and what looked dodgy turned out to be quite OK.
I took a wander around the RV Park ..there are a lot of vans left here permanently and the owners just holiday here. Their was a whole second tier of vans we didn't even see yesterday. The beach was all rocks of course so you wouldn't take a towel and lie down there that's for sure. The tent sights were along the front, miles from the washrooms so I was happy we got the Van.
Off on the road to Louisburg today, via Sydney Mine, North Sydney, then Sydney and then about 100 other little bleeps on the map. To get to the next road we travelled along a Causeway and caught the Ferry at the end for a 5 minute ride across the water then back on the road. This little Ferry takes about 12 cars and just goes back and fourth all day long. It cost $5.50 each trip or $13.30 for 10 trips. He sold us the 10 trip one but as we don't need it after today Kaff was going crook about being ripped off ..We ended up giving the card to the lady at the RV Park.
We crossed a bridge like the Sydney Harbour Bridge to get onto the Peninsula where North Sydney was . Kaff spied a Lighthouse as we crossed so we had to do a quick turn to find it. IThe path looked to be in someones yard but we ventured in anyway. The wildflowers were huge and beautiful, they were actually taller than me in some places. We followed a track right down to the water then bush bashed some more before we found it. Turned out to be quite beautiful with the bridge behind it. Found our way back to the car just as it started to rain.
In North Sydney we stopped and saw the Newfoundland/Labrador Ferry. They are huge compared to what we have been on. Maybe as big as the Vancouver Island one. But mostly we just drove along a looked at the different houses and the waterfront. Sydney town had some gorgeous houses and lovely Tree lined streets, we managed to get ourselves a bit lost here but we did see a lot of areas other people will have missed ! I was following one car who I thought would take us out onto a main road but he turned into a factory, we found just about every dead end street in the town, we even followed a truck but he ended up taking us to a place that looked totally deserted except for the truck so we did a quick turn around, eventually we did find a road and as luck would have it, it was the one we were looking for . We really need a sign on the back window saying "Foreign Driver"...Kaff didn't help when in the next town tells me to turn right and when I did she then starts yelling "They are coming at me !" Yes you got it, I turned into a one way street. We managed to get out without horns blasting...then we had to slink off down a back street to recover..before heading off again.
The next town Low Point we saw another lighthouse  and we spoke with another tourist who told us about some seals close by.. Kaff was still busy at the lighthouse..(actually having a squat) she was nearly busted...We scooted off to the next road and saw the seals. They were really enjoying themselves rolling around in the surf on their backs then on their bellies. We managed a few photos but Canon Kaff was keen to sit with her Phallic symbol super lens and snap of a close up of a seal, but as I have no patience and a lot of ground to cover I had to cut her snapping short.
We stopped at Tim Hortons for lunch got our stuff out of the car and went to enter before we realised it was shut for renovations . So it was pile back in the car and try again by this time we were in Glace Bay and I found a diner called "Mikes" ..and we got an excellent lunch and good service so we left Happy little campers.
We pretty much followed the water around heading for Loiusburg, we passed through Little Lorraine and clean missed Big Lorraine, we went over Mira Gut, Catalone Gut and one other I have forgotten before finally hitting Louisburg. We drove straight through looking for the Fort we found the carpark and drove around that before giving up and then as we drove back onto the main road and down a bit it Smacked us in the face. The Fort has been rebuild over the original site I assume as we didn't go in...it was to late in the day and would have taken too long. Besides I am not keen on re-enactments. We did however find some more red chairs and also another lighthouse..along the shore there was what looked like an Archialogical dig site. Kaff happily trotted out to the red chairs while I kept the engine warm. Once we had our red chair fill we saw another lighthouse on the other side of the Bay so we were off like a pair of rabbits.. The other side of the bay was lovely with lots of the local fishing fleet . We wound up this skinny road eventually getting to the Lighthouse. It started raining here and it was right on the open sea so the waves were thundering in. After that we were back on the road destination Home via the supermarket & Gas Bar.
Got some Mushroom soup for dinner tonight, Kaff picked up some cherries. We got back to the little car Ferry and as we waited I discovered the Grave yard where the local Giant was buried !! He was 7 ft something, but as legends have it the Lady giant from Tamagouche was taller 8 ft something ! Girls win.
Went to heat my soup and we cant start the gas stove. Now got it sitting in boiling water...I think dinner will be a while yet.
Halifax tomorrow via Baddeck....last 2 nights in the tent, lets hope the weather improves.
