Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada
Halifax: Nothing I hate worse than having to redo something..I wrote my blog last night but as the internet was a bit hit and miss I thought I would load it today..bad choice on my part so here goes again.
We hage a big day in the car yesterday, left our quality abode in Englishtown at around 0815 and we didnt get to the Halifax Campground until after 1700 .. and we didnt really have too many stops.. Canon Kaff was on a time limit.
First stop of the day was the Eagle stop. As we were passing a hotel we saw some staff & guests pointing at something between the buildings and when I looked it was a huge Bald Eagle and it was on the ground right near the building. Amazing. By the time we had turned around and stopped Kaff went flying out of the car, it had flown off, she watched where it went and we followed like the stalkers that we are..Kaff wearing her camoflage hot pink singlet found it and then spent the next 20 minutes taking so many photos that there was smoke coming out the extended lens. I had to drag her into the car to get going.
Next stop was the beautiful Baddeck. situated right on the huge Bras' d Lake and the water was like glass so just perfect for photos. We didnt spend a lot of time here as we were on a Halifax mission. We crossed the Canso Causeway leaving Cape Breton Island behind and we did a hard left to follow the coastline along. There were many quaint little harbours and towns ..some of these towns were first settled in the late 1600's. The Scottish influence died off on the Island and now it is back to the French.
We thought we had taken a wrong turn when suddenly the road ran out and we were face to face with a ferry crossing which wasnt clearly marked on the map. My Navigator ran down to chat to the ferry guy and next thing we are on a ferry floating across a big inlet.. We reached the other side Port Bickerton and discovered another Lighthouse, our second for the day. The first being in Baddeck but thankfully we were not able to reach that one. Port Bicketon was a different matter...2 km down a rocky road and it cost $3..a big dissapointment. Got photos anyway.
Had lunch at Sheet Harbour and tucked into another Lobster roll and it was devine... Fresh Home grown tomatoes and lettuce on a home made sour dough roll, I was in heaven. $11.99 and then of course the dreaded Canadian tax ontop then tip, ended up closer to $20 but worth every cent. The bloke working there gave us excellent directions into Halifax and onto our Campground and they worked like a charm. Halifax city has water all over it. So the roads and highways go in every direction. Because we are both pensioners and too tight to pay for a Navman Kaff is reading the map and has been an absolute champion getting us into some places.
So we got to the camp ground and set up our tent then went down to the Convenience store to buy some food for tea. we settled on a piece of steak as we havent had red meat for ages, instant Mash potato & instant Gravy with some Macaroni Cheese as a side. Yummo it was good. We cleaned up and showered then hit bed about 1930..Big Saturday night.!
