Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada
Amherst: This blog will be for a few travel days. Yesterday Monday 18th August we left Halifax KOA Campground. Thankfully it didnt rain overnight as it was supposed to and we were able to pack up the tent and box it dry. We had sorted all the campgear, blow up mattresses, toaster etc and put every thing we couldnt pack into a box that we had been carrying around since our arrival in St Johns.
Our first stop was in the town of Truro which is like a hub town for people travelling in every direction. It turned out to be a big town and once again the houses were amazing. I would love to photograph them all but My book would end up looking like a Real Estate Brochure.
Anyway we got some directions to a Thrift Store and it turned out to be a huge centre for the Handicapped and they sort through the donations etc. Its like a job for them all. We only realised this after getting some directions from one of the guys. We eventually got to speak to a lady and meet some of the girls, they happily took our gear off our hands to sell in their shop. The we were off again.
We decided as we had plenty of time that we would travel along the Bay of Fundy Road opposite to the one we had visited before. It was a beautiful drive, full of small little farming communities some old some new. We also found another Lighthouse. This one we were allowed to climb up. We were back to the red dirt river banks and tidal rivers. The farmlands were gorgeous. It also rained most of the time, actually heavy in some parts. I thein we got into Amherst around 1400, we checked into the Comfort Inn then wandered down to the local diner for some lunch. We took a walk through the Atlantic Superstore and Dollarama (Kaffs favourite shop). It was full of Halloween stuff. They go crazy for it here.
Back at the Hotel we had to sort our luggage. Get rid of the remains of camp food...My off sider (Captain Thrifty) stuggles with waste. We are only able to take our backpacks with us on the train and the cases have to get checked, so it was a fair bit of sorting..We dined on leftover Cherries & some Ranch dip and Soup Crackers for dinner and enjoyed watching the TV. I really miss TV. Gordon Ramsey is on Masterchef over here and we saw it last week somewhere so watched it again last night. I like this version better than ours as there is less mushy crap.. The judges are judges not soft cocks like our lot. Anyway the nasty one got eliminated so I was happy with that. We might have to get a TV in the RV in Vancouver so I can watch the end of it.
Today Tuesday 19th we took a drive around Amherst and discovered they too have a huge area of Historical homes, they are stunning and I want one. Then it was down the Highway saying goodbye to Nova Scotia headed back to Moncton New Brunswick. Handed the Hire car back we had done roughly 3100 kilometres and we are both very tired. We are looking forward to getting onto the train tonight to try and sleep for 3 days. Before the next round.
Kathryn won the baggage weight competition coming in at 22.2 kg and I followed with 22.6. We are allowed 23 kg. I am sure she must have slipped something into my bag so she could gloat...lol.
Totonto here we come.
Photos to follow, camera is in my case.
