Jasper, Alberta, Canada
Jasper Monday :
Beautiful day today, pulled out of camp in Golden at about 0930 ..Kaff was lingering over emails so she got pushed along a bit by me as today we do the Icefield Parkway to Jasper. One of the most beautiful drives a person can do. We stopped at Field on Hwy 1 which is an old Railway town, we topped up our gas guzzling machine, then powered on. Chucked a right turn onto the Parkway, there is a lot of changes to the road since we have been 5 years ago.
There was a lot cyclists on the road today..they do it well they drop you at a point then pick you up bloody miles away. It does nothing to excite me when you see then struggling up hills, but they must have legs like pistons. I am sure I am getting fitter looking at them.
First stop I think may have been Crowfoot Glacier & Helen Lake or as the French would say Lac Helen. Then Bow Lake & Peyto Lake everyones favourite. The place was jammed packed with tourists, so fortunate we have done it all before as we were able to just snap away and move on. From there we pushed onto Columbia Icefield and after that we saw the Parkways newest attraction "Icefield Skywalk" .. Only accessible from the Icefield centre, we were unable to photograph it as there was no stopping along that section of road.
We came across about 12 cars all parked on both sides of the road and we snapped to attention thinking Wildlife ! It was Mountain Goats. So being desperate for wildlife pictures like everyone else we stopped and Kaff managed a lazy 100 shots I reckon with the big zoom. Everyone was happy after that...yay wildlife.
The Parkway developed a Haze from Columbia Icefield all the way to Jasper. Dissappointing really and so lucky we have already got good pictures from before.
We are camped tonight in the National Park at Jasper. We got a full hook-up which is always a bonus as we can use our loo without having to empty tanks.. It took us 5 minutes to hook all our hoses etc so we are getting better. We are yet to work out toilet protocol in these situations..I will have to ask Judy. I have made a rule that if you dump it you clean it and sort the hoses. Hmmmm
We are learning a little more about the RV as we go along, one thing was not to leave dishes in the sink before driving off and another is to secure the watermelon firmly in the Fridge so it doesnt fall out and break open. This watermelon is yellow inside but does taste the same.
I am having a bit of RV envy actually...Our unit has pictures of rocks & mountains on it..pretty damn boring really. Today we have passed units with beautiful lake scenes and another had a float plane. I think I might ask for a discount when we return it.
