Concrete, Washington, United States
Concrete WA Monday:    What a glorious day in Leavenworth...upstairs for breakfast which was a hearty hot one and then got entertained by a man and his horn. To think, that was breakfast and we had the whole day ahead of us.
We only got 10 minutes down the road before stopping to take some photos of the Fruit stalls and their Thanks Giving displays . Some of the pumpkins they have are really odd looking. But they were very colourful and bright.
The first town we headed into was Wenatchee which lays claim to being the Apple Capital of the World and going by the countryside around it I think they may well be correct. It was a lot like Kamloops really with big bare looking hills and fertile Valleys and lakes and rivers. Just beautiful. I guess its really a continuation of the Okanagan in British Columbia.
I stopped in Wenatchee and posted some parcels home to myself to ease the bulge in the suitcase. Hopefully I will be right from here. I got some directions for where we were headed from some folk in the long line up in the Post Office..(not much different from anywhere else). Wenatchee was quite a big town.
We followed the Columbia river for a while and then Lake Entiat after that we turned left after Chelan at a place called Pateros. All along here was damaged from Bushfire. Some places were not touched and others totally destroyed. People living in Rv's beside the ruins of their homes . There were orchards burnt to the ground. Just amazing how the fire just randomly chooses its path. This fire went for miles. When we arrived back in mid July there were bushfires in southern BC so I imagine that this was when this land was destroyed. Very heartbreaking to see.
We stopped in the town of Twist or something like that and we got some gas..Kaff came out of the Servo ticked off because the woman inside was not very helpful or friendly. Her gas was cheap though...
Surprise of the day was our next stop in the town of Winthrop. It was a totally Western style town. Every business has been built old style and it was just awesome. We stopped here to take a few thousand photos and to have some lunch. On leaving we saw some Deer in some ones yard so the whole place is totally laid back..
From here we entered Northern Cascades National Park .  It was just a typically stunning ..vistas everywhere, glacial lakes, huge mountains and a winding road. Beautiful. Many photos taken again as you will see.
Coming out the other side we have landed in the town of Concrete...Yep you heard it right ..they have named the town CONCRETE ! and that is where we are staying the night just down the road from the huge silos made from Concrete. Its a bit seedy and the guy running the place was a bit Dodgy, so if we go missing just remember we stayed at the only motel just west of Concrete !!
