On the road to Agra

Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India
Left the lovely country town of Khajuraho on the bus and heading to Orchha ...We passed many villages and most of them tend to very clean, everyone sweeps outside their houses..At one end they usually have a water pump and this is where the women tend to congregate, filling water cans and putting a couple on their heads and carrying a third..clever I say.. At the opposite end of the village is a square concrete water hole and this is where the men hang out..soaping themselves then washing off the soap, thankfully they keep their jocks on..Not that it matters as they seem to just squat anywhere to do their business !
Along the highway we stopped at a small school, we upset all the kids as they got so excited, I gave the teacher the pencils I had bought ..the kids a really cute, some of the younger girls were wearing their Kohl around their eyes..it looks a bit eerie..Next we stopped for morning tea at a truck stop.. I managed to by my hand painted dolls here for less than half what the last store wanted at the hotel.. I was pleased.
next was our lunch stop at this magnificent resort near Orchha, lunch was splendid mainly because they had chips so we were rubbing our hands with glee, and we even went back for seconds.. One of the women was crook with vomiting so Veshel booked a room for the afternoon for her to rest in while the rest of us went into Orchha to visit the old Marharajas palace.. Orchha is very much a backpackers place.. lots of little stalls.. The Palace was really good, they had two side by side one 15th Centry and the other 16th Century.. the later was really cool, the older one had some pretty neat murals in it..
we strolled though the town and into the market place where families were sitting amongst the dogs and cows in the square having picnics .. a cow actually came at me like a dog does when you have food as I was carrying a plastic bag, another cow was digging in a bin..bloody crazy I say..
I bought a coconut for about 20c then traded it for some bangles as I didn't have enough rupee..
After that on our way out we stopped at a Crematorium/ Mausaleum place which was good mainly because at the top of the buildings there were Vultures nesting..as well as some pretty huge Bee hives. Finishing there we made our way to the Train Station at JHANSI..OMG ! Through the town I have never seen so much filth and rubbish it was disgusting the people live like that, rummaging through rubbish piles etc it was awful, the worst I had seen. Just out of town they have a cement works and everything around is covered in cement dust.. so dirty.. The station as expected was really crowded and they offered us a seat in the small private sitting room for ladies, but the stench from the swats at the rear of the room had us moving out pretty damn quick..
Finally we moved over to our platform an there was a train with a second class carriage absolutely packed to the brim, people were squished everywhere. Thankfully for us we were travelling in style in an A/C seat.. not quite first class but definately better than 2nd class..lol
They bought us out food and drinks like we were on a plane but we were forewarned not to eat anything that was cooked so we gave it all a pass.. Eventually we arrived in Agra, on the platform were families sleeping under blankets whilst they waited for trains, it was 2200hrs at night and I couldn't believe how many people were there.. Outside was a sea of homeless people asleep under blankets, I thought I was at Flinders st Station !
