Susan says "God on the Mountain"

Anacortes, Washington, United States
We leave Pine Near RV park, Winthrop, Wa. in cool sunny conditions. Winthrop is on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains which are dryer and warmer with much more gradient temperatures. The town is a dead end for much of the winter because highway twenty closes at that point. This year due to little snow fall the road opened in April rather than May. We are not too impressed with what is billed as the North American Alps until we cross to the western side. The forest is very dense with snow capped mountains and rock faces abounding. We stopped at Diablo Lake overpass for views of the emerald waters. After we come out of the park lands we enter ranches and farms. We made a stop at Cascadian Farms organic farm stand. We had been told to get the blueberry ice cream, even though we had dessert first for lunch. There were fields of blueberries that we could visit. The bushes were just full of green berries. This is the same company that sells several products in our stores at home. Then in to Burlington for the Fred Meyer stop to fill the gas one last time in the USA. Of course we did some grocery shopping. It remains to be seen if we will be allowed to keep what we bought. Any raw chicken products are not allowed. They may or may not let us keep other items.

The flora here is just exquisite . Red rhododendrons are not like any we recognize. The northern states have the climate that many flowers we have thrive in size and color. We saw the biggest rhubarb ever...it flung a craving on Ed. We arrive at Fidalgo Bay resort owned by the Samish Indian Nation. Our site backs up to the bay!! What a beauty. This town is Anacortes, Wa. Mount Baker was visible for a while out our back view. It was a sunny day here! After checking in we drive down to find the ferry terminal for our early arrival tomorrow. Then in to town to find food. We could not seem to locate a place with water views so we ate at a local downtown spot. Parking a 33 foot RV on the street takes some doing. We only managed because it is off season, middle of the week. We got halibut and a crab cake. Halibut is not local but was the catch of the day. The food was good. They also had rhubarb pie. Ed broke down and ordered one. It took forever to come but when it did it was about a 6 inch freshly baked individual pie with whipped cream. We all ate it and had plenty! Now some fool had parked directly in front of the RV with no room to spare but Ed backed the sucker up until he could make the swing out and we returned to a busy night of prep for tomorrow . Is seems you must line up early and wait for your space even if you have a reservation on the Washington state ferry. All paper work, passports, etc must be in hand when you drive up. We also had stuff to secure around the RV for this part. I kept finding excuses to go for a walk. The flowers are just so beautiful and the tide had roll in. The geese had their babies on the shore. I saw a seal as well. I hope to tell today's story with some photos. Tomorrow we hope to deboard on Victoria Island, British Columbia. We will turn off our cell phones from now on. Hopefully we will get wifi, but I can not know for sure what that will be like. I do not have a hot spot, whatever the heck that is! If you do not hear from us do not be alarmed...or maybe you should be. Our plans are to spend two nights on Victoria then take a ferry overnight from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert. We can not stay in or go to the RV on the ferry! We did book a cabin which is said to be very basic. Bunk beds as I understand, otherwise you can sleep in a chair . Since orcas live in these waters we have high hopes to see them. Prince Rupert has some services but beyond that it will be spotty for at least two days. We will get to the AlCan highway and make our way across the only way to Alaska. We should reappear in Tok, Alaska next week. We have had Internet on this route but not good service so hopefully I will be in touch.

We went over the mountain at 5600 feet and were at 2 feet this afternoon.Susan says she is having a great time. It could be that she is buying something at every stop.Ed's blood pressure remains good so far. These last two days are much nicer than the previous days. My gut has stopped hurting. We still are not using the back slide-out. A pain. But I do have my microwave!! I made tea and cooked eggs in it tonight. My $2 hair dryer from goodwill smoked today so it got tossed early!I forgot the mileage and Ed is asleep. About 200 or less today. It was 68 degrees at dinner time. The nights get down right chilly, especially when someone forgets to switch to heat. Happy trails until we meet again......

Wow! What a wonderful day you three had! The view from your campsite is spectacular. We really need to get on the road. Just saying... Oops...John maybe just had a virtual heart attack! Keep having a great time and fingers are crossed for wifi so we can get our daily fix.

Betty: I LOVE reading your blog......it is almost like being with you. Tell Susan I missed her yesterday at our special place (smile). So very glad you are feeling better; so glad Ed's blood pressure is okay. Lots of love from Mt Juliet, TN.

Beautiful pics. I really enjoy the scenery of God's creation, both small creatures and majestic landscapes. Fortunately' I get to see some of them through other folks escapades since travel has not been a big part of my life. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. You paint us a fond picture with words and the images you send our way. With the grandeur of this world to explore and enjoy, I'm, as Abraham, looking for a city whose maker and builder is God. What marvels He has provided for humans to see in this life and the saved to behold after. May your continued travels be blessed.

The pictures and commentary are wonderful. I noticed Susan's title to this blog. Maybe the goslings have been on the mountain with God, or at least in His presence, and their forms are glowing with His Glory like Moses.

Susan .. you hit the nail on the head, as did your 5th cousin, President Calvin Coolidge on July 25, 1924: "There is new life in the soil for every man. There is healing in the trees for tired minds and for our overburdened spirits, there is strength in the hills, if only we will lift up our eyes. Remember that nature is our great restorer."

Thank you for these truly awesome pictures and bringing us all along for the ride!
