The Storm That Wouldn't Stop

Fayetteville, Arkansas, United States
It came down, not in showers but in sheets of water. Lightening lit up the sky and the wind and rain turned the field into a floating pond. This was not the first episode tonight. In the 2nd Quarter the game between the Arkansas Razorbacks and Kentucky football teams had been suspended. After a long wait the teams came back on the field and played til halftime. About 10 minutes in the third quarter, the game was suspended again because of the lightening. This time the sheets of rain covered the field and was unrelenting in it's force. After a while those in authority called the game because the storm was not moving out and was predicted to remain for some time. The score was Arkansas 49, Kentucky 7 ... and this is how the game ended.

I was sitting in the box, out of the rain and wind, for this game . A friend of my brother's had given him 4 of his box seats for the game tonight and I was invited to use one of them. Johnny and Karla, my brother and sister-in-law, and my cousin Kara had come along to enjoy my company. At least, that is the way I tell the story. Kara is always so enjoyable to spend time with. I'm glad she got to come along on this trip.

It was a good trip to Fayetteville earlier today, although it took several hours. Then, eating at the Chinese Restaurant was a highlight for us. I had squid for the first time.

I had never been to a Razorback game but have been a fan for as long as I can remember. It came natural since I was born in Arkansas. I'm not sure but I think it is a law that you have to be a Razorback fan if you are born in Arkansas. So, here I was at a live game, sitting in a box seat, and enjoying the company of family. Bring on the good times!

Once the game got called for bad weather in the 3rd quarter, we started our long journey back to Batesville. It rained most of the way and made driving tedious. But, the Razorbacks won, so the pain was minimal.

Going to a Razorback football game in Fayetteville was on my bucket list of things to do. Now, I have one more adventure crossed off my list.

Thanks, Johnny, Karla, and Kara. It was a blast.
