Mandalay, Myanmar
People coming to Mandalay in Myanmar want to visit the ancient cites of Amarapura, Sagaing, Inwa and Mingun, near Myanmar. The capitol of Myanmar was moved many times for various reasons. Wooden palaces and pagodas were often dismantled and moved to the new capital. Today, I visit some of these places, starting in Sagaing, 13 miles from Mandalay. It was the capital in the 14th century. From Sagaing Hill I look out over the white and gold pagodas and see the trails you can walk around the mountain to explore them.

I came by motorbike to Sagaing Hill today, 11 miles from Mandalay . Saging is populrar for it's silver shops and guitars. I walked around the beautiful Pagoda that dates back to 1312.

There is a great viewing point where I can look out over the mountain. There are trails running all over the mountainside. Tree branches hang over the stone walks wandering around the mountain side going past various monasteries.

There are bronze frogs placed around the pagoda. The frogs are used for donations by the Buddhist faithful. This ancient pagoda is a favorite of the people in the Mandalay area. It is peaceful on top of the hill as you enjoy the great views from here.

There are staircases and pathways to enjoy. I would like to have hiked through the hillside to the other pagodas and places I can see from here, but there is not enough time today.

Once leaving Sagaing HIll, my motorbike taxi took me to other beautiful pagodas nearby. This entry has pictures of some of them.
