Sabbath in Manila (Quezon City)

Manila, Luzon, Philippines
Today is the Sabbath, a day with an entirely different feel...that of rest and focus on our God. We are in Quezon City which is a northern suburb of Manila. The Manila area is huge. It is the world's 5th largest city with the entire area having about 25 million people. Traffic is snarled. I hear horns going all the time with traffic police whistles all the time.

We're staying at the Great Eastern Hotel, a massive building that has more than 20 stories . Larry Darden is on the 16th floor, I am on the 12th floor. Church services are 800 meters away on the same street as the hotel.

In the morning we took it easy. It was good to have the extra free hours to study and meditate on this day. I went over the notes for my sermon later this afternoon.

About 12:15 PM Abraham Lorenzo picked Larry Darden and me up for services. If I had known how easy it was to get there (on the same busy street), I would have walked. I'm wearing a formal barong for church today that was loaned to me by Earl Roemer who is always so ready to share and give.

We arrived at the church hall. The choir was practicing for the special music to be sung at services. I recognized a lot of the people from my previous visit. Many of them are Facebook friends. Mr. Joel Murallla from Oklahoma was here for a family reunion. Also saw the Kurt Hoyer family. He works at the American Embassy. More than 90 were present for church services today.

After services we fellowshipped about two hours before Rey Evasco drove Larry and me back to the hotel. Larry and i had dinner at Max's restaurant were we had lunch the day before.

Back to the room and preparing for the National Council meetings in the morning.
