And onto BC

Coquitlam BC, British Columbia, Canada
Sept 27 - leave Jasper under light cloud within a few km slow to watch a large female elk
saunter across the road - the last of a 'postcard' view from Jasper - weather brightens as
we approach the Ice Field - it seems that a fleet of very expensive sports cars - Lotus, Lamborghini etc in the parking lot are competition for the age old glacier!

Continue onto Lake Louise which is almost 'packed' with tourist by now it is a beautiful day and to quote one Parks Canada person - the sun brings out the tourists - with good reason - beautiful
>and the hotel is looking good after its major renovation some years ago - the glacier at the end of the Lake is looking smaller than I remember it!
Good news - a stack of Globe/Mail free for the taking - and its the Saturday edition!!

We arrive at Golden which begins much further east than I remember - find the hotel
dinner at a small local Greek restaurant and .... sleep

Se0t 28 - we are totally fogged in can't see very far at all - we have a leisurely breakfast
or is that the correct term for those somewhat odd 'continental breakfasts' which are offered in
'economic' hotels - think this was actually a motel - haven't stayed in one of those for a long
time --- the desk clerk assures us (he's right) that it won't interfere with visibility and off we go
several km down the road it's like magic and blue - bright blue sky appears - the Roger's Pass
is our first stop - love those snow sheds!! - looking for coffee we decide - because we miss a
couple of opportunities-who knew they would be our last -- to continue on to Kamloops (med is lovin the names) and have lunch -
now the Coquahalla (sp) I am remembering my first trip on this road when I experience the 'sudden weather changes' the signs warn you about - fortunately today we do not experience
that-- in fact Med enjoys the ability of speed up and down a beautifully paved, quiet highway...

We are headed for Coquitlam - try helping someone whose first language or second for the matter is not English - put that into the gps !!
we make a rest stop and somehow get off on an alternate secondary road - lovely scenery in the farming area of Hope - signs of Hazelnuts for sale - who knew-in Canada!! as the hour of
rest (and fatigue) arrives we are far from destination - I re-programme the gps - and again --
somehow we end up at Vancouver CPity Hall as a 'via' point - I decide to call the hotel for help
the desk clerk has limited English and no knowledge of the city - none! - we consider
options Med is for stopping at a police station - this after he frequently mentions how few police there are in Canada - me Im for stopping a taxi and following him to our destination - compromise we decide to give the GPS another try - it seems every turn we make offers us
another 15km or so in a somewhat new direction - also the street we are on has traffic lights
at every intersection which seem to be auto in that when you arrive they change to green on
the main route but you do have to stop first - ggggggrrrr we are not in the mood to stop -
plse don't even think about the conversation in the car - it will hurt your ears - never mind
we make it some 1hr 45min late and possibly 60km more than was our original plan - we
arrive at our Best Western Plus and I am lost as to what is the 'Plus' -- ah well perhaps I
will recognize it after a good sleep
We are trying for the 10am ferry at Twaassen - wish us and the GPS luck!!
