Flintsbach, Bavaria, Germany
Up late to a wow wow wow view, our hosts place is on the edge of town in a small Bavarian village with views to die for. You look right along the valley floor then it rises up into the mountains. With very few clouds around it is picture postcard stuff. Gerda suggested that we take the cog wheel railway up to the top of the mountain, the tourist railway is only a short distance away, it is also the regions ski fields in winter. The train take about half an hour to climb to the top, naturally with spectacular views along the way. At a height of 1850 metres it is about the same as Australia's highest mountain, there is still snow (now pack ice) around and we take pics of us in it. The views from the top are all the way to the Austrian alps as we are situated not far from the Austrian border and down into the green valleys below where we can see dotted all round small villages. With the sun shining it is only short sleeve weather but it changes quickly and need a jacket as well. We went into an ice cave as well with a constant temperature of 4 degrees. There is a church as well which we are told is very popular as a wedding venue. The receptions are then held in the chalet.

Lunch a little difficult to sort as a menu in German but sort out the local meatloaf and potato salad - different but ok . We wander around for 3 hours then make our way back down and then start to walk back but get lost so Gerda comes to the rescue. She has a Mini Cooper so tell her so do I. We go for a short drive around to look at the local sights as the Bavarian villages are all great for us to look at. We even cross the border into Austria which we did not think we would be doing when we planned to come to Germany. Back home to meet the children, they have two named Paulina and Leah, 12 and 9 years respectively. They seem excited to meet us and hear us talk but have no understanding of English like their parents.

Laze around and Bernt returns home from work so more chatting before dinner with the family. The meal consists of a platter of cheeses, smokes salmon, a salad, olives, stiffed baby capsicum and breads. A table full of grazing along with wine, the girls also have a glass of white wine. You have a small plate and just really snack for as long as you want. I asked if this is the norm and they said yes, our meal of an evening consists of very little meat. All this "work" makes one ready for bed so I go and catch up with these wise words and then go to the land of nod. We try to impress on our hosts that they should not go to any effort but I think it is falling on deaf ears so feel very spoilt and guess we should take it while we can as I am sure that it will turn.
