Roma wasn't built in a day

Rome, Lazio, Italy
Up for breakfast around 8.00 am as we have a big day ahead, time awaits no one in Roma.

At the end of a day on the small stones that make up the pavements it is hard to think how one can place into a few words the mayhem, madness and sheer magic that draws and has draw mankind since before Christ to these environs . Best way is to be matter of fact with a few tales entwined within.

Since I am doing all the work here it only fair that you undertake some as well, pick something that I mention and do a little homework on the subject matter - so of like being here. Naturally I do wish that to be the case. After this little expedition I will be take select groups to all parts so time to just do - remember one is a long time dead.

Wander to the metro and pop up next to Piazza di Spagna, that is the Spanish Steps to me an' me ol mates. We had just a small taste of tourist sights in Roma, it can be brutal with many others on a similar path. It is up to you to peel back the layers and expose the fabric of the sight in question. Rather, many simply place a tick in the box and move on for the next elephant stamp. Another milld irritation ( actually one of my pet hates) is the inconsideration of the locals to be carrying out works / maintenance at our sight of choice . Especially scaffolding for visual prosperity purposes. The Spanish steps naturally have plenty of steps but the main purpose for being is the bottom fish shaped water holder. It was the central point xxxxx.

Then onto the Fountana d. Trevi. As it was such a warm day, Trevi Fountain at 11.00 am was the place to be. From the end of a building a sculpture of lions and people meld together all in an a nondescript location but similarly as you walk around every street corner another character of Roma is revealed, honestly you do wandering in a daze unable to fully comprehend what is being laid before you as it indeed engulfs ones senses.

No greater point can be made as to when you turn a corner and before you sits the Pantheon. A gift way back when to the people to recognise all gods, but was taken over by a powerful religious party some time back. The visit to Roma would be worthwhile just to suck in what is the incredible piece of work both it's facade and the mesmerising interior are. A true masterpiece - look it up.

There is a sucker born every minute, especially two greenhorn Aussie females. Outside the Pantheon there were two costumed roman warriors fleecing those that have their photo taken with them, well 20 euros lighter later lesson learned!!!

Then a further wander on, mind you with chaos and tour groups taking up every space we reach a very large space called Piazza Navona where we rested up drinking Mary-Liz 's new best friend the Speitzer. Next stop on the magical mystery tour is a space called Campo De Fiori, this is where the locals tend to shop for their fruit, veggies, herbs etc. We arrived around closing time but still way out of control.

We then just walked and walked and walked, past the biggest national gallery you will ever see, the structure is completely made up of marble. Finally in the home straight we make it home for some well earned beverages along with Parma hams and an array of cheeses. Only the lads venture out for dinner as the girls are spent.
