Born to be wild - on our scooters

Kamares, Egeo, Greece
Take on three big hogs late morning - no prizes for guessing why not four! M-L and her sun worshipper protege Maddie take to the sand dance floor for a greek tango.

The Laylands set forth to discover new found boundaries . Our 50cc hogs rip up the bitumen as we zoom around with our aim of getting lost very easily achieved. Sifnos is reasonably large with its main town situated at high elevation. This hub takes you generally to villages mainly on the water, one way in, same way back. Kathy doing really well for a first time hog rider, negotiating the machine and the wrong sided riding as well. The Don, well he is just being the Don, weaving all over like Mr Natural.

The sights from afar are astounding and outstanding, around each turn another different type of Greek Island postcard appears. After a few stops in villages where we pass donkeys working, donkeys still being ridden, goats goating and goats being milked we head to a very small beach called Vathi. Didn't an ice cream company get a stick and pour ice cream on it with chocolate coating and call it Heaven. Well all you need here is the stick and whack Vathi onto it - now that is my type of variety.

This small horseshoe bay of no more than 500 metres across is car free, park behind and walk the small alleyways - not hog proof, we get to waters edge where we come across our lunch spot, Kathy gets off her chair at the eatery and is in the water swimming between courses . Charcoal barbecued baby octopus and fish with squid and Greek salad. Washed down with FIX, their name for Pieras. These Greeks are an inventive mob, one of the best uses of a vessel we have seen, the water cooler with the large water bottle at the top, instead of water how about you have the local vino instead - sheer brilliance, plastic cups in the side holder, would you like your vino cold or room temp?. They also take you into the kitchen to show what fresh fish they have and you select it on the spot, it is then taken into the side alleyway to cook on the home make cooker. It is the simple things that can turn a day.

We take our hogs to a few other scenic spots and then turn them for home with the Don at the helm. Whoops, on a tight hair pin bend Kathy first, me soon after come around to find the Don on the bitumen, he is fine, his head took most of the impact. Right shoulder battered and bruised, the hog still in good nick. Pick him up, dust him off and I lead home a little slower than before. M-L has the I told you speech out and under way. Also wants bandages, perhaps plaster, maybe ambulance and definitely hospital - the Don settles for a few Pieras as painkillers.

Out to a great local eatery tonight, great food and great service with liquors to skull down at end, M-L trying to play party pooper but we having nothing of it. A fun filled day.
