London for our last free full day

Great Missenden, United Kingdom
Tomorrow is the day that we turn the horses and head back down to the homestead.

Best make the most of the day . No problems with this.

Catch our usual first off peak train into London, the cost is 14 pounds for return plus use on all public transport in London which is a very good deal. The train takes around 40 minutes from Great Missenden into Marylebone station then we catch the tube, firstly the Bakerloo line then onto other places. Today we are heading off as Team Vella and Team Lucas, the Vella's get off at Oxford Circus and we the next station, Picadilly Circus.

Team Lucas - firstly we go to the half price theatre tickets and book a 3.00 pm show, off to see the Jersey Boys @ forty quid each. Next we wander around the West end for a while, check out some ready to go food eateries and find the Picadilly theatre where the boys will be singing up a storm for us later this afternoon.

Next we catch a train to Notting Hill Gate, where we just roam really, M-L happy to spend time in all the quirky shops, we walk the areas most famous street, Portobello Road, look up a few places that Deb has marked on the map and then make our way back towards the edge of Notting Hill which links up with the main gardens / parks of London - Kensington gardens and next to this Hyde Park . We walk right through Kensington gardens past the Princess Dianna memorials then onto Kensington Palace. This is where queenie grew up and now the home of Wills and Kate.

Take a double decker bus down past all the gates along Hyde Park, past the deck chairs with people sunning them selves onto Knightsbridge. This was more by good luck than good fortune as M- L wanted to get just one more Harrods bag. Time enough for train back to Picadilly Circus, grab a sandwich, water the horses then onto our show.

For those that saw the Jersey Boys when it ran in Melbourne you will already know that it is a fantastic show, it has now been running in London for over five years, they still throw everything at it, we both enjoyed it, Frankie is an interesting person for sure.

Team Vella - Maddie went to see the Queen, her flag was up the pole but would not let the convicts in, they changed the guard out front which by all reports was full of pomp and movement . Next they travelled down to the River Thames where they joined the throng at the London Eye, a great view was had and another tick in the box.

A river cruise ensured that took them to Greenwich, saw the gherkin and the cheese grater under Tower Bridge, past the Tower of London and many sights not often seen, especially with the river at a very low tide. Greenwich was a great place to have a look see, in fact they said a lot more time was needed so have placed this on the next to visit list when here again and there will be an again.

We joined back up and gave verbals to each team then back on the train to home. Deb went out on purchased some of our new mantra - organic and as preservative free as one can acquire, we are going to stay out of the supposed big and best home supermarkets as much as we can when on home soil. Ours tonight from Nigel ( she is besties with all her local supplier) was organic free range chickens, fresh veg from across the road at the farm shop and a summer pudding brimming with berries that she hand picked. Effort equals reward equals simply a better way of life ( but it does cost more in time and money). We watched the semi final of the World Cup, Germany towelled down the host nation in a big way then some Rutherglen Muscat and the sack after yet another fine fine day.

Yes we are at the end but so much has passed, soon time to implement some new understandings.

This is the life.
