Singapore, Singapore
How did that work!!! On the plane Paul sits next to someone with a dreadful cold that got worse during the flight and I'm the one that's caught it?
Well finally got back to sleep last night and have just woken up at 7 .30 hopefully that's goodbye to the jetlag. Grateful for our trusty earplugs as our room faces the Old Fire Station which is now the An Ambulance Station oh well it's just for one more night.
Time is now 8.30am so coffee time me thinks. First stop this morning will be the Business Centre to confirm tomorrow's flights, hopefully no problems this trip. Last time we had a problem with my visa so had to go to the airport early for the airline to call Canberra and get the paperwork changed.

Well what a day, started off great with no problems with the tickets, once sorted it was off to one of our favourite places in Singapore The Botanical Gardens, first stop was breakfast of Muesli, yoghurt, honey and fruit, plus a fruit plate and coffee. Then it was straight off to the beautiful Orchid house which didn't disappoint. I tried to get some help in why mine at home never survive but couldn't find any idiots guide to keeping them, that said I was told that any of the bright colours would be the hardest to keep in a cool country. Oh well.
After the orchids we spent a long time in the park itself, being a Saturday it was packed, loved all the ferns in the rainforest section, by now it was getting hot so decided it was time to head of to our next stop the viewing lounge at The Marina Bay Hotel. From here you get an amazing view of the whole city, we sat for a while on the deck in the shade with a drink (only Coke) then came my senior moment of the day when I put my sunglasses on my head and then when we decided to move I put my hat on and was convinced I'd lost my glasses . I even went back to the bar and asked if they'd found any. Oh dear, could it be sunstroke or just old age.

I think the ipad is definetly suffering from sun stroke as it doesn't like this heat and works only when it wants.

By now it's late afternoon so we decided to head back for a sit round the pool before going out later to take the river cruise (free again thanks to Singapore Air) never done an evening cruise before and it was amazing with all the buildings lit up. First stop was dinner at a little Italian bar on the riverfront, then onto the cruise at Clarke's Quay which was great, by the time we got back it was about 10pm so we set off walking back to the hotel (a walk we've done numerous times) but it all looked so different in the dark and in true Gardiner fashion we managed to get ourselves lost. After walking a fair distance we asked some locals for directions and they told us our best bet was to walk a bit further and take the subway back to City Hall. Well what an experience that was, bought our ticket OK but finding our way round the subway system was not easy for us two oldies but hey we did it, eventually. Must say it certainly made our underground look ancient (which it is of course) here the whole place is light, airy, clean with nice wide walkways. The trains were busy but well ventilated not cramped and crushed like London.
Finally we were back and tucked up in bed in no time. Tomorrow our next leg of the journey begins with a midnight flight to Adelaide should arrive around 9am Monday.

After such an adventurous day we have put the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door and will have a quiet morning round the pool before we check out at lunchtime,

Hi Wendy and Paul, just managed to catch up with your blog, really should be doing ours but it can wait for a bit longer. Loved the pictures of Singapore, must try and get back there soon.

I've never had any joy with orchids either - I think basically they just thrive on total neglect. Hope you get over your cold - think positive: it could have been norovirus like we had in the house last week!
