Beachtime at Second Valley

Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

Luckily Chris managed to get today off but we had yet another lazy start but very nice too . It was a lovely start to the day and we all had breakfast on the patio with clear blue skies and sunshine. Our plan for today was time at the beach at Second Valley where the children can fish for squid and Karen and I can paddle and swim respectively. This is a beautiful part of the country, South Australia has had a very wet summer and everything is still lovely and green. From Blackwood we headed south through Willunga and Myponga where we saw wild kangaroos shading from the sun in the fields then onto Yankalilla where we stopped for a picnic lunch in the park and a coffee and cake in our favourite bakery, Paul and I shared a Lamington and Dan had one with sprinkles, Nicky went for a caramel slice.

On route we stopped at the new Buddhist Temple in the process of being built it has a huge Buddha overlooking the sea and what will be a very tranquil garden when completed. This was the first time Chris has seen the site open so we all went in for a look, they were obviously getting ready for some celebration but you could go in and look at the site so far .

Then it was on to Second Valley, this is an amazing beach set in a bay with a small pier for the boys to fish from. When we arrive we couldn’t believe just how many people had the same idea as us so walked along the pier to see if anyone was catching anything. One of the first people we saw caught a really big squid which gave the boys encouragement. Unfortunately I think most of the squid had been caught and with a lot of people diving off the pier it didn’t make it easy and the boys caught NOTHING.

I enjoyed my first swim of the holiday the water was lovely and cool the further out you went and after getting bored with catching nothing Nick came back down to the beach for some snorkelling. By now the temperature was up to 31/32 degrees so needed to be careful not to get sunburnt, we left just after 4.30 so we could get to the butcher in Normansville for extra
sausages on the way home to supplement the lamb steaks left over from yesterday and to be home in time for Liam to arrive.

It’s really good to see him, he is doing so well at Uni and at the end of this year will have his BA which will be well deserved as he works so hard. We had yet another great meal with pumpkin and chickpea salad, potato salad, plus the meat not too unhealthy but the wine is the problem but hey when you staying in The McClaren Vale what do you expect.

Now we have the boys in bed and we are watching the tennis, Nadel v Dimitrov whoever wins this will be in the final with Federer on Sunday.

For some reason good old Optus wifi’s not working again tonight so will have to post these entries when it decides to work.

Wendy, you make it all sound so pleasant and relaxing – and wonderfully hot! We watched a new Buddhist Temple being built in Massachusetts some years ago and the result is very tranquil. Anyway, good luck and here’s to lots of extra sausages, steaks and plenty of swimming and McClaren for your final week. Many congratulations and good luck to the hardworking Liam too.
