Change of plans a trip to Gorge Wildlife Park

Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

What a difference a day makes, yesterday by 10am we were heading home because of the heat, today we woke up to overcast skies and showers . We were hoping to do a dolphin cruise from Port Adelaide today but they don’t sail on a Monday so we went off to The Gorge Wildlife Park which I thought we went to before and was a huge park in a gorge where we saw Koalas in the wild but Paul tells me this was a very different place on route to Melbourne during out last trip, it certainly wasn’t the one we went to today. They certainly had a lot of animals there but we didn’t think a lot of the pens/cages were big enough for the animals and several were pacing up and down a sign of stress. There were a number of open areas where you could get great photos of the animals especially the beautiful Small Penguins which we searched
for during out New Zealand trip and never saw one. These were originally known as Fairy Penguins but due to political correctness the name was changed, they are so cute. Plus we did get to see the elusive Echidna and Cassowary so it wasn’t all bad. There were also some animals we’d never heard of such as Capybara, Mara, Quokka, Jabiru and Brolga .

We could have had a photo with the Koalas but decided against it as there was a lot of people waiting and after the guy at Humbug Scrub told us this act shortens their lives we thought it would be too stressful for the animal. Got some good shots of the Pelicans, Kangaroos, Wallaby’s (which you could walk through) the Leopard’s cage seem way too small, the
Dingo’s were hiding under a log and wouldn’t play, but all in all the photo’s are good.

On our way back we stopped in Elizabeth for some shopping and for Paul to get his hair cut, by the time we got there it was raining AGAIN and it was very humid. Getting out of the air conditioned car our glasses steamed up it was as bad as Singapore or Bangkok. Home again now.

Poor Winston is still not eating and so remains in the Animal Hospital, Bobbie went to visit him today and he enjoyed a cuddle but she couldn’t get him to try even some chicken which he normally loves. Let’s hope he improves quickly.

Tonight we plan to go out to eat, not sure where we are going yet.
Will fill in the animal names when I find out what they are.
