A trip to the Barossa

Port Adelaide, South Australia, Australia
Well we sure were late starters today we never left the house till 10.30 and only decided over breakfast what to do. Before we went out I tidied up my suitcase which was such a mess and with just over a week to go thought I’d better start getting it in order.

After breakfast we headed off up into the Barossa, no not wine tasting today think we’d did enough of that last week with Chris and Karen . Slimming World sure has been put on the back burner.

As we were so late starting we stayed on the Sturt Highway to Nuriootpa to visit Maggie Beer’s (Australia’s answer to our Mary Berry, except she cooks more meals than cakes) This is a lovely setting and you can taste all her Pate’s, Dips, Jams, and now wines, after finishing the tasting we had a Long Black Coffee which was more like an Expresso with no room for any
milk but we survived it. After we walked round the pond watching the turtles swimming around, we also saw several Egrets in the trees along with other birds we didn’t recognise, as we came to the end of the trail we went through the orchard and saw Quince growing, never seen them growing before.

We also walked round the pens where they had Gold Pheasants, they are beautiful birds and managed to get a photo through the wire, while waiting for a good shot we got talking to a family from Northern Ireland who are in Australia visiting their daughter, it’s amazing how many tourists from UK you meet .

Paul doesn’t like the motorway driving so we took the scenic route back through Tanunda where we stopped and picked up some new tourist books from the tourist office all our are now out of date, then we had a wander up and down the Main Street. At the end we actually saw a Ford Dealer who had a Mustang in the showroom and of course Paul wanted one, they even offered to ship it free of charge if we paid in Sterling, I don’t think so, I offered to buy him a model but he wasn’t interested. Strange that. One brilliant thing we saw here was a touch apron for people with Dementia which seemed much better than the armbands we were making for them in the UK.

Had a coffee at The Darling Café, this time I went for a Cappuccino then Paul had a go in the beanbags in the park while I went to the Restroom, when I came back I hear he’d been beaten at draughts by a 2 year old. Oh dear Oh dear. Then it was back on the road on route to Lyndoch and our favourite bakery in the hopes of buying so fresh rolls for tea but no luck
they’d sold out. Oh well.

While in Lyndoch we looked around a shop selling all handmade crochet and knitted items lovely shop, the lady has told me about Crochet 3D cube blanket and suggested I look it up on Google images. Will give that a try later, sounds interesting.

Then it was back to Elizabeth via Gawler (never realised how big a town that was) so an earlier night in and time to sellotape my old map back together, it’s certainly been well used .

Winston came home from the Pet Hospital today but he’s far from a happy boy let’s hope he picks up soon.
