Sucre, Bolivia
We arrived back in Sucre in time for the final round of the Bolivian Primera Division. Sucre's team, Club Universitario, were at home to Nacional Potosi, a mid-table battle. We bought our tickets outside the ground for the 'Curva Sur' (The Stretford End / Barside of the old Layer Rd of Estadio Olimpico Patria). These were also the cheapest tickets and exposed to the elements, which luckily held off until the final few minutes of the game.

The pace of the match was steady, with Universitario taking an early lead much to the delight of the 'Lokura' hardcore home fans . The main talking point of the game came just before halftime when the referee ordered Nacional to retake a free-kick on the edge of the area (unclear why). Of course the retaken free-kick sailed into the back of the net, much to the obvious annoyance of the Lokura. Second-half was quite uneventful but cheered up by a few snacks. The match finished 1 - 1. The highlight of the afternoon came at the end of the game when the referee and his assistants needed a Roman-esque tortoise formation of police with shields to escort them off the pitch as the home fans pelted all manner of solids and liquids towards them. Apparently this is the norm!

On the way home we bought a 12" Christmas Tree complete with lights and the smallest decorations imaginable to help get us in the festive spirit...
