El Chalten, Patagonia, Argentina
Argentina's answer to Torres del Paine are the extraordinary snow-capped towers of the Fitz Roy range and the astounding mountain scenery around El Chalten, a village set in a pretty river valley. Again we were blessed with unseasonably glorious weather, as we set off on a 32km day hike. This involved making use of all daylight hours available and lots of dulce de leche flavoured snacks!

The trail passed through forests blazing an array of autumnal colours, where it was wonderful to hear the sound of woodpeckers doing what they do best . The views throughout the day were incredible. Patagonia is inspiring.

Shattered, back in El Chalten, we rewarded ourselves with a hearty Milanesa, a typical Argentinian dish of thin, breaded steak.

Onward bus to Los Antiguos, with delay to replace a punctured tyre, 14 hours.
