Rosario, Argentina
Yes, the famous revolutionary and Messi were both born in Rosario. The city is located a few hours north from Buenos Aires and is often thought of as Argentina's second city from a cultural and financial point of view.

Rosario is famous for the colossal Monumento Nacional a la Bandera, a striking concrete monstrosity, which contains a crypt of flag designer General Belgrano . Apparently this was the location where the Argentine flag was raised for the first time, and an eternal flame burns in Belgrano's memory. We ascended the monument for views of the city and the Rio Parana.

Unfortunately the weather discouraged us from visiting the popular riverside beach spots. Instead, during our wanderings around the city, we came across 'The Beatles Memo' bar which was fantastico! Packed with memorabilia, it was just as much museum as bar, and was a welcomed break from hearing tango music.

Onward bus to Buenos Aires, 4 hours.
