Ihla Grande was a pretty and relaxed place to spend a few days. Although it was probably a bit more picturesque 50 years ago, before the hoards from Rio de Janeiro discovered it as a getaway destination. Nevertheless, the stunning Lopes Mendes beach is considered one of the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. The walk across the island through the rainforest, passing by large bamboo trees with the noise of howling monkeys in the background, was probably more memorable than the beach itself. However, we were certainly glad to take a dip in the sea once we arrived!
