Three countries in one day...

Rorschach, St. Gallen, Switzerland
Looping around the shore of the Bodensee is the Bodensee-Radweg, a 260km cycle path that is broad and flat, free of cars and clearly signposted. This sounded appealing, so armed with Gudrun's useful map, we set off on a quest to spend the next 6 days peddling around this scenic expanse of water at a leisurely pace.

The first leg (57km) involved getting to Lindau for lunch, a brief stop in Bregenz, Austria for an afternoon ice-cream, and finishing the day in Rorschach, Switzerland . Being a warm, sunny September Sunday at the start of the harvest season, many other people had a similar idea and at times the route felt a bit like a cycle highway!

We wished Winni farewell, after he had kindly organised the excellent rental bikes for us from a nearby guesthouse, and made our way towards the historic town of Lindau. Full of medieval and half-timbered buildings, Lindau is a beautiful town in southern Bavaria. In fact the town is actually an island which juts out into the lake. We spent several hours here and enjoyed a Weissbier, admiring the view of Austria, Switzerland and the Alps across the lake.

It had been an excellent day's cycling as we finally reached Rorschach at dusk and checked in with our hospitable hostess, Marisa. This AirBnB was a true gem - a spacious, airy, modern apartment. The following morning we enjoyed the superb vistas out to the lake, as we indulged in the fabulous Swiss breakfast prepared by Marisa.
