A picturesque university city...

Konstanz, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Feeling healthy and energised from Marisa's breakfast, we set off on the next stretch of our cycle (40km) which took us to Konstanz, a university city just over the Swiss border in Germany. Despite the relatively short distance, we had to get our pedal on as we had arranged to meet Winni for some sightseeing mid-afternoon.

Konstanz is a city split in two by the Rhine, which exits the lake here . Due to its proximity to Switzerland, Konstanz was not bombed during WW2 and its historic old town remains intact, including the Muenster. Led by Winni, we climbed up its tower for a fantastic view of the city and the Bodensee. After this physical exertion, we plonked ourselves in a beer-garden on the lakefront and enjoyed the afternoon sunshine. A highlight of our stay was the local brauhaus' Monday evening deal of Schweinshaxe with all you can eat sauerkraut + dumplings - Sam definitely got his money's worth!

Andreas' pad was certainly unique - complete with a sophisticated chemistry kit plus ingredients, walls plastered with organised pages from an encyclopaedia and rainbow flags hanging from the ceiling. A very welcoming and friendly host, Andreas and his Chilean amigo struck up good conversation with Winni whilst we settled in.
